Position Summary Under general direction, assists in projects and activities related to services provided by the medical center laboratory. Performs all duties of a medical laboratory scientist or medical laboratory technician and provides coordination of point of care testing. Laboratory Point of Care Coordinator provides technical resources and daily direction to hospital and laboratory staff with regard to point of care testing, policies and procedures, and regulatory requirements. The Laboratory Point of Care Coordinator assures quality testing and accurate test performance through operator training, competency assessment, equipment monitoring, equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, quality control review, and proficiency testing for point of care testing. Position Responsibilities Unit Specific Position Responsibilities Qualifications, Knowledge # Experience Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education): Graduation from a program with an Associates Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science Program (Medical Lab Tech). AND 4 years training or experience in the high complexity testing specialties performed. Maintain competency in designated areas of the lab. Organizational Requirements: Maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements. # Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor#s degree and successful completion of Clinical Laboratory Science Program AND 4 years training or experience in the high complexity testing specialties performed. Successful completion of Clinical Laboratory Science Program AND Master#s degree in lab science AND 2 years training or experience in the high complexity testing specialties performed. Specialist Certification. # Required Knowledge, Skills # Experience: Ability to interpret results considering current patient status; recognizes and analyzes problems and comes to a logical and timely solution to ensure accurate patient reports. Skilled in performing automated and manual test procedures. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Previous experience with an electronic health record. Demonstrated leadership abilities and skills shown by successfully leading teams/groups in projects, work assignments, policy updates, etc. Active listening skills, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. # Preferred Knowledge, Skills # Experience: Two or more years of experience in a high complexity laboratory. Experience in writing policies and procedures.
