Position Summary Ensures all actions taken in carrying out responsibilities support patient centered care. Provide orientation, inservice, and continuing education for clinical nurses and patient care technicians, including preceptor development, competency assessment, and learning activities that help staff learn their roles, perform in their roles, and enhance knowledge, skills, and attitudes that support patient centered care. Position Responsibilities Unit Specific Position Responsibilities Collects data and information related to educational needs and other pertinent situations. Analyzes issues, trends, and supporting data to determine the needs of individuals, organizations, and communities. Identifies desired outcomes and opportunities for teaching and encouraging staff to include all pertinent information in patient care decisions. Establishes a plan that prescribes strategies, alternatives, and resources to achieve expected outcomes. Implements the identified plan. Coordinates educational initiatives and activities. Employs strategies and techniques to promote positive learning, critical thinking, and safe practice environments. Assists to ensure a state of continuous readiness for regulatory compliance and surveys. Provides consultation to influence plans, enhance the abilities of others, and effect change. Evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes. Demonstrates knowledge of research based nursing practice and coordinates changes to clinical guidelines based on research. Identifies pertinent research questions arising from clinical practice and participates in the research process by collecting data and assisting with implementation. Qualifications, Knowledge # Experience Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education): Licensed as a Registered Nurse and authorized by the State of Iowa to practice nursing. BSN. Basic Life Support (BLS) training, or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment. Mandatory Reporter training or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment. Within 24 months of hire obtain certification in clinical area of specialty.#Certification must be maintained throughout employment in position. Minimum of three years# experience as a clinical nurse. Organizational Requirements: Maintain stroke education per regulatory requriements Preferred Qualifications: Professional certification in nursing specialty. MSN preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills # Experience: Ability to pursue and foster a sense of team and partnership across all disciplines. Ability to communicate effectively, in English, with diverse population groups. Ability to be self-directed, flexible, and able to adapt to change. Ability to communicate effectively in a professional and tactful manner with physicians, staff, patients and/or their representatives. Ability to read and understand chart documentation. Ability to demonstrate basic computer skills. Ability to read, write and understand the English language. Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing. Knowledge of principles of adult learning and experience in education. Knowledge of theory, principles, techniques and practice of nursing; of scientific principles and nursing research; of preparation, administration and actions of medications, counseling and teaching techniques; of medical equipment as it relates to patient care; of equipment and instrumentation which will include handling of complex equipment. Must be positive, self-directed, creative and able to work autonomously. Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for adolescent through geriatric patients in related area of nursing. Preferred Knowledge, Skills # Experience: Previous experience in nursing professional development. Membership in a national nursing professional organization.
