Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois Professional Educators License
- School Nurse Endorsement
- Illinois Registered Professional Nurse License
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Current CPR/AED Certifications
- Illinois Vision & Hearing Screening Technician Certification
- 5 years experience in school nursing
- Computer literacy and competency in use of technology necessary to complete job responsibilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and relationship building skills
- Knowledge of the school health care environment
- Strong analytical skills to assess, plan, and implement strategies for successful Health Services Department management
- Specialized knowledge and clinical skills necessary to oversee the care provided for students with physical disabilities and chronic illness
- Critical thinking skills and sound judgment to monitor and respond to students' health needs
- Ability to be flexible, organized, and function under stressful situations
- Leadership that includes such skills as successfully implementing and managing a change process with ability to use systems thinking; inspire and coach others to be successful; professionalism; and collaboration for the department across the district
- Lead the Health Services Department (e.g. - professional staff development, department meetings, facility needs, policies and procedures) with collaboration and input from the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents
- Set expectations for the healthcare delivery model and manage the overall delivery of health services across the district
- Work with Director of Buildings and Grounds to manage the facilities, equipment, and supplies of the Health Services Department, as applicable
- Collect and analyze health services data for annual reports and program improvement, including state reporting
- Manage components of OSHA and AED compliance, vision/hearing screening, health records, etc. in accordance with state mandates and professional guidelines
- Represent issues of health interdepartmentally and in the school community
- Manage day-to-day staffing for the Health Services Department to meet the changing needs of the district and community expectations
- Lead the hiring of staff for the Health Services Department, with input from the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resource, and School Principals
- Provide student/staff in-services related to general or specific student health needs
- Assist the Director of Communication to develop and disseminate general health information to share with the community, or in response to district or public health crises. Assist in maintaining the Health Services website
- Provide and/or delegate direct professional nursing and/or health services to meet the daily and/or critical health needs of students
- Maintain user-friendly, clean, organized facilities conducive to providing efficient services
- Manage the Health Services Department budget
- Establish effective communication to meet the health and safety needs of students, staff, and the school community while maintaining appropriate confidentiality
- Participate as a member of the Special Education and 504 teams as a resource; provide services, plan, and implement accommodations and health care for special education students
- Create individual health care plans for students with medical issues. Provide oversight for implementation and revisions
- Participate as a member of the Student Services Team, providing health input to special education teams, move in conferences, teachers, and parent/ student meetings when needed
- Supervise and evaluate Health Services staff in collaboration with School Principals and in accordance with the Board of Education policy, professional standards, and contractual requirements
- Participate in school/district committees and district initiatives, as needed, that focus on student and/or community health
- Participate as a member of professional school nursing and education organizations, utilizing opportunities to enhance professional knowledge
- Attend and participate in district committee meetings as assigned
- Maintain active membership in state and county School Nurse Organizations
- Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
- 10.5 month position
