QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or GED required. Idaho Nursing Assistant Registration required. EMR experience preferred. Typing skills of at least 35 wpm preferred. Experience working with culturally diverse population preferred Current Basic Life Support/CPR certification required and/or willingness to obtain within three (3) months of employment. Good work history indicating: positive work attendance; ability to work well with public and in a team oriented environment. Previous experience providing excellent customer service both on the phone and in person. Must have phone.

ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Hearing: within normal limits with or without use of corrective hearing devices.
  • Vision: adequate to read 12-point type with or without use of corrective lenses.
  • Must be able to verbally interact with staff, clients and public.
  • Manual dexterity of hands/fingers for writing and data entry.
  • Able to lift up to 25-100 lbs. (assist in transfer of patients)
  • Stand 40% of the day.
  • Walking 60% of the day.
  • Pushing up to 30-100 lbs., (i.e. crash cart, stretcher, or wheelchair)
  • Pulling up to 25-80 lbs.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Rooms and updates patients regarding wait times.
  • Obtains patients' complaint/reason for visit using HPI template in EHR.
  • Obtains appropriate vital signs, including weights and heights under Nurse Documentation. Also able to recognize normal and abnormal ranges.
  • Able to recognize and evaluate changes in patient status and notifies appropriate staff.
  • Complete SBIRT screening tools, informing appropriate team members of any additional resources needed.
  • Obtains the appropriate information, specimens, lab results, x-ray results and health history from patients to prepare them for the clinical provider.
  • Performs procedures that are within appropriate scope of practice (for example, tympanography, audiometry, performing EKG's, glucose testing and performing vision screening)
  • Able to scan Glucose monitor into Next Gen to print out reports.
  • Able to anticipate Medical Providers' needs.
  • Operates and maintains appropriate medical equipment.
  • Assisting nursing staff in completing patient reports (i.e. labs)
  • Access resources for referrals as needed and sets up referral appointment for patients if applicable, including verifying insurance eligibility for referrals, if applicable.
  • May be asked to send out lab result reminders that have been generated by nursing or medical provider staff.
  • Transport patients within the clinical area.
  • Take specimens to lab.
  • Assist with special procedures (Pap's, etc.)
  • May be required to dispense optical hardware.
  • Transfer to wheelchair or stretcher.
  • Assist with ambulation.
  • Protect patient privacy and maintain confidentiality.
  • Keep call bell within patients reach – if need to (Treatment Room only).
  • Answer call bells promptly.
  • Prepare hot and cold applications.
  • Practices Universal Precautions.
  • Meets mandatory education requirements for safety, i.e. blood borne pathogens, body mechanisms, hazardous chemicals, fire and safety procedures.
  • Communicates situations of potential legal risk at time of occurrence through appropriate chain of command process.
  • Able to utilize all medical equipment within scope of practice safely and appropriately.
  • Participate in fire drills and patient evacuation procedures.
  • Cleans, disinfects or sterilizes instruments; and assumes maintenance of diagnostic equipment.
  • Maintains general cleanliness and orderliness of exam/treatment rooms; prepares exam rooms between patients.
  • Replenishes supplies and checks for expired dates on all applicable items.
  • Disposes of contaminated wastes and clean contaminated areas.
  • Observes oxygen precautions.
  • Use side rails appropriately.
  • Demonstrates ability to critique own practice for error and pursues corrective action.
  • Keeps informed by reading memos, emails and bulletin boards and seeking out assistance of others.
  • Accepts constructive feedback about performance or behavior and initiates corrective action.
  • Takes ownership of issues.
  • Participates in projects and follows through to completion.
  • Pursues education activities to maintain or enhance a current level of knowledge and competency and documents appropriately.
