Job Summary

The RN Instructor presents education programs for the community and/or staff as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: Associate Degree in Nursing
Minimum Years of Experience: 1 Year of experience in Nursing
Substitutable Education & Experience: None.
Required Certifications/Licensure: Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse by the South Carolina State Board of Nursing;
Maintains certification as required for specific programs (i.e.: Certified Childbirth Educator, Certified Breastfeeding Educator, Certified CPR Instructor, etc.).
Required Training: Competent communicator with class participants from the following age groups as required: Infant (Birth to 1 year); Child (1 year through 12 years); Adolescent (13 years through 17 years); Adult (18 years to 65 years); Geriatric (Over 65 years).

Essential Functions
  • The RN Instructor will facilitate program participants in acquiring knowledge and skills.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of program content and use of patient care standards related to program.
    • Acts as resource for program participants.
    • Demonstrates ability to work with program participants in a manner that fosters positive relationships.
    • Assesses issues and needs appropriately prior to implementing learning activities.
  • The RN Instructor will embody those behaviors, philosophies and values that serve to uphold the ideals and enhance the image of LMC to include:
    • Maintains and respects program participant privacy.
    • Respects patients' "Bill of Rights." 
    • Attends minimum of 12 hours of appropriate educational programs for own  professional development.
    • Presents professional appearance in dress and grooming.
      • Adheres to dress code.
      • Maintains personal hygiene and cleanliness appropriate to contact with  patients, visitors and co-workers.
  • The RN Instructor serves as a liaison between program participants and LMC.
    • Offers feedback to supervisor regarding outcomes/problems related to the program(s).
    • Demonstrates flexibility when meeting the needs of program participants.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • The RN Instructor utilizes materials in a cost effective manner.
    • Assists with cost estimates for program(s) needs for yearly budget.
    • Monitors and evaluates the quantity and quality of supplies and equipment and makes recommendations through appropriate channels for cost effective operation.
  • The RN Instructor will communicate effectively throughout the health care system.
    • Suggests revisions to educational programs when deficiencies are identified.
    • Uses creative methods for communicating with program participants.
    • Demonstrates ability to communicate/interact with patients/family/staff/class participants as described below:

  • The RN Instructor identifies opportunities for improvement and coordinates/participates in the development and implementation of action plans to improve educational programs.
    • Identifies ineffective routines, interventions, systems, etc. which do not contribute to desired or identifiable outcomes and takes action to change these practices.
    • Facilitates change in a positive manner.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
