Job Summary

The Anesthesia Manager assists the Director in organizing and coordinating patient care delivery as well as in managing personnel and fiscal resources. Delegates' responsibility to other department members as needed. Provides leadership and direction to staff.

Minimum Qualifications

•Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
•Minimum Years of Experience:  None
•Substitutable Education & Experience:  None
•Required Certifications/Licensure:  Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in South Carolina (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist);
Certification by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists;
RN licensed in the state of South Carolina;
Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
•Required Training: None

Essential Functions
  • Functions as a professional role model for staff CRNAs, students, physicians and all other Lexington Medical Center personnel.
  • Exhibits self motivation, accountability, and responsibility.
  • Works in a cooperative manner, which fosters favorable relations between employees, patients, patients' families, visitors, fellow employees, and the medical staff. Accepts chain of command, supervision, and constructive criticism.
  • Operationalizes department and Quality Assurance program and reports statistics to department Director.
  • Makes recommendations to the Director to improve operations and quality of patient care.
  • Assumes responsibility for the effective operation of the department using the guidelines established by the department Director.
  • Works with the Director providing prudent fiduciary responsibility while maintaining a high standard of quality patient care.
  • Evaluates and monitors the utilization of appropriate resources based on analysis of patient and department needs.
  • Provides input into selection of equipment and materials for departmental and organizational use.
  • Assists the Director in the development of policies and procedures for department operations and patient care that is consistent with the mission of Lexington Medical Center.
  • Oversees department Unit Base Practice Council.
  • Manages day to day operations of staffing and scheduling.
  • Approves staff work schedules and work time.
  • Assists in development, training, and competency assessment of staff.
  • Assists with annual performance evaluations.
  • Assists with the recruitment and retention of personnel.
  • Encourages and gives recognition and rewards to staff for excellence in performance standards while being able to exercise disciplinary measures to uphold accountability and responsibility.
  • Promotes an environment, which provides opportunities for the continued professional development of staff.
  • Assists in the budgetary process.
  • Coordinates the delivery of anesthesia care in and out of the OR, OB, X-ray, CT, MRI, Endo, etc., and the out-patient facilities utilizing anesthesia services.
  • Assists Director in providing follow-up on Press Gainey and occurrence reports.
  • Under the medical direction of the attending anesthesiologist, the Manager shall perform all duties of a staff CRNA as needed.
  • Performs and documents pre-anesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient.
  • Consults with attending Anesthesiologist regarding plan of care for the patient.
  • Performs complete safety and working order check of all anesthesia equipment prior to initiating an anesthetic.
  • Selects and applies appropriate monitoring for continuous evaluation of patient status.
  • Selects and administers appropriate drugs, fluids, and supplies for the safe conduction of anesthesia.
  • Manages the patient airway and pulmonary status using current practice modalities.
  • Facilitates smooth induction, case management, and emergence from anesthesia by selecting and administering appropriate drugs, fluids, and airway management techniques.
  • Initiates necessary intravenous access lines including arterial lines appropriate for case management.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responds appropriately to emergency conditions and situations making appropriate decisions for airway management, fluid, and drug administration.
  • Provides accurate report to licensed personnel appropriate for their field of expertise for the safe maintenance and or recovery of the patient.
  • Actively participates in post anesthesia assessment and department quality assurance program.
  • Follows the current scope and standards for Nurse Anesthesia Practice.
  • Follows the current Code of Ethics of Nurse Anesthesia Practice.
  • Follows Department and Hospital policies.
  • Presents to work in an appropriate and timely fashion.
  • Follows hospital policy for meeting service expectations providing courteous and respectful treatment of all customers including but not limited to: co-workers, patients, families, medical personnel, and vendors.
  • Follows hospital and departmental Anesthesia and Surgery dress code policy displaying a non-defaced badge and professional attire to include but not limited to: clean scrubs, appropriate head wear or cap, and removing shoe covers and masks prior to leaving the perioperative area.
  • Manager understands, agrees, and recognizes that the department functions in a 24-hour, 7-day a week capacity and that there is an off-shift and call provision and staff obligation to meet department needs.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
