Job Summary
Under the direct management of Leadership, the Director of Patient Access directs and manages the multiple facets of patient access services as they relate to an integrated health care delivery system. Areas of responsibility include: enterprise-wide scheduling service, pre-registration, insurance eligibility and verification, precertification, registration and up-front collections. Maintains a competent, professional, customer-friendly, well-trained staff and ensures a high level of accuracy and completeness related to all functions within the Patient Access Department. Demonstrates an understanding of the financial impact of departmental processes as they relate to the fiscal stability of the organization.
Minimum QualificationsMinimum Education: Bachelor of Science or Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration
Minimum Years of Experience: 5 Years of Experience in an Administrative or Management Capacity

Required Certifications/Licensure: None.
Required Training: Experienced in healthcare environment;
Analytical skills demonstrated either through advanced education or healthcare accomplishments;
Ability to develop, forecast, manage, and analyze complex budgets and financial reports;
Demonstrated strengths in verbal and written communications;
Advanced computer literacy required whereby host systems must be mastered;
Excellent customer service skills, both written and verbal.
- Promotes growth of Patient Access department with innovative ideas.
- Communicates and collaborates with ancillary departments to promote customer-focused care and efforts which support the revenue cycle.
- Demonstrated knowledge and active involvement in the processes affecting Accounts Receivable and Revenue Cycle management.
- Promotes the Patient Access Department by acting as a liaison to medical staff, owned/affiliated physician practices, customer/patients, and hospital/ancillary departments.
- Develops and implements new processes to meet the needs of the organization and its customers.
- Ensures processes and tools are implemented for accurate collection of scheduling, pre-registration, registration, insurance data.
- Ensures that all calls are handled in an accurate, timely and customer-focused manner.
- Ensures the department maintains and fosters effective public relations through excellence in patient service, demonstrated through low volume of departmental/patient complaints.
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality with both internal and external customers.
- Manages all direct reports and ensures that management of all staff is in strict adherence to all appropriate policies and procedures.
- Effectively manages the Quality Assurance Coordinator of Department.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and all safety standards.
- Conducts monthly meetings, providing departmental, organizational and educational information.
- Fosters and maintains a positive atmosphere within the departments.
- Develops departmental budget by estimating future personnel, expenses and supply needs.
- Maintains expertise in area(s) of responsibility, including changes and updates by insurance contracts, by attending presentations, workshops, seminars and meetings.
- Serves on committees as assigned.
- Produces, manages and analyzes statistical/financial data and makes adjustments/changes to operations in order to affect positive change by next period end.
- Demonstrates the ability to appropriately integrate general knowledge of age specific needs into the provision of patient care.
- Consistent with professional image and hospital dress code.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
