Job Summary

As a Software Engineer for DRS Naval Electronics, you will apply your technical and development experience to solve software design-related problems for components and subsystems in our portfolio of US Navy electronics infrastructure solutions. Job focus areas include participating in software engineering activities in design, development, testing, modification, and the sustainment of software products throughout the product life cycle.

Job Responsibilities

In this role, the candidate will be responsible for assigned technical solutions. Primary and essential accountabilities include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Ability to work independently under supervision of others and provide regular reporting of progress and status. Responsible for completion of assigned tasks on time and meeting technical requirements.
  • Full software lifecycle support including analysis, requirements, design, development/implementation, testing, integration (software and hardware), configuration management, deployment, and debugging of software applications and/or systems.
  • Perform unit-level analysis to measure performance, schedule, and risk trade-offs.
  • Review customer requirements, and under direction develop designs to best support the requirements.
  • Use computer-aided engineering or other design/analysis software in the performance of assignments.
  • Support software qualification efforts, development of test software and qualification plans, test activities, and failure analysis efforts.
  • Develop and present software-related material to support internal project reviews.
  • Create and process documentation updates including generation and maintenance of reference data.
  • Provide technical knowledge and assistance to other engineers and support personnel.
  • Evaluate software related supplier components, subsystems, and services.
  • Participate in Internal Research and Development (IR&D) projects, which may include prototype design and development.
Qualifications

Technical degree (Bachelor of Science) in relevant field with at least 2 years of direct experience related to Software Engineering and must have demonstrated success in solving technical problems.  The following skills are desirable, though applicants are not required to have every skill listed:

  • Background in Software Engineering, including participation in multi-discipline, cross-functional teams on software development efforts.
  • Familiarity with applying legacy, new and emerging industry and military standards for Software Engineering processes, techniques, and tools (e.g., Agile, UML, and SysML).
  • Familiarity with requirements management processes and tools (e.g., DOORS)
  • Familiarity with software design processes and tools (e.g., Enterprise Architect).
  • Familiarity with software lifecycle processes such as development, continuous integration, version control, testing (e.g., Clear Case, Git, Jenkins).
  • Familiarity with legacy, new and emerging distributed software architectures (e.g., client/server, thin client, Peer-to-Peer, Cloud, Web Services, Service-Oriented Architecture, Microservices, hardware virtualization, Software as a Service, mobile computing).
  • Fluency in multiple software programming languages (e.g., Java, C, C++, Bash, Python).
  • Demonstrated experience with Unix/Linux operating system administration and development.
  • Familiarity in performing software and systems level tests (e.g., unit, component, integration, system)
  • Familiarity in multiple software domains (e.g., algorithm development, middleware services, operating systems, device drivers, combat systems, real-time embedded systems, human interfaces, test harnesses, formal methods).

U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.

 

The expected pay scale for this position is $77,818/year - $127,972/year. Should the level, location, or scope of the position change during the hiring process, the pay scale may be modified accordingly. When extending an offer of employment, Leonardo DRS considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position; any Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, the candidate's relevant work experience, education/training, certifications, and key skills; internal equity; and market and business considerations.
