Job SummaryLeonardo DRS Land Systems is looking for a full time Principal Electrical Engineer for our Goleta, CA facility. The Principal Electrical Engineer will lead a group of engineers, on various system integration programs/technical activities and completion of these activities on time and within budget. This position will also design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of leading-edge products, systems, or subsystems in our modern facilities.
The candidate must possess the ability to complete a technical project independently; mentor and coach other engineers; and work cross-functionally to coordinate resolution of technical issues and implementation of technical improvements. In addition, the candidate shall demonstrate consistent good judgement and will be able to effectively communicate with engineering and management stakeholders. Finally, the candidate should thrive in a fast-paced environment of rapid prototyping and embrace agility and outside the box thinking.
Job Responsibilities- Involved with the design, development, modification and analysis of various electronics systems. May include Hardware, Power Engineering, Power Electronic Engineering, Electromagnetic Engineering, Integrated Circuit Engineering, Components or others.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in existing products or systems and make modifications as needed.
- Compile and evaluate design and test data. Analyze, develop and recommend design approaches.
- Responsible for participation and leadership on cross-functional, multi-site development teams that include Systems, Software, Electrical, Mechanical, and Specialty Engineers
- Learn and fully understand the requirements, specifications, and customer's expectations of system or subsystem, and lead a project team to develop designs to best support requirements
- Interact and communicate clearly (written and oral) with technical management, other professionals, technicians, support personnel, program management, and other customers as required to coordinate, recommend, and confer regarding technical activities and progress
- Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems or subsystems
- Review customer specifications and requirements develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable
- Provide budget, cost and schedule input for design assignments
- Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services
- Drive the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements
- Develop prototypes to retire key development risks
- Participate in preparation of proposals
- Provide technical knowledge and assistance to other engineers and support personnel
- Participate and/or lead appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings
- Support integration testing and other related engineering and marketing demonstration events
- Provide technical knowledge and assistance to other engineers and support personnel, including mentoring and coaching junior engineers
- Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings
- Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience
- Experience designing and maintaining system Interface Control Documents (ICD)
- Experience with electrical systems design
- Ability to determine the hardware compatibility of a system
- Knowledge on and experience with engineering drawing applications (experience with CANVAS a plus)
- Knowledge on and experience with circuit simulation applications
- Knowledge on and experience with Circuit Card CAD applications (experience with ALTIUM a plus)
- Management or demonstrated leadership experience
- Ability to obtain a Department of Defense Security clearance
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment
- Ability to define and complete technical projects independently
- Must possess excellent analytical and communication skills, written and oral
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
- Experience in various prototyping methods and approaches is a plus
U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
The expected pay scale for this position is $116,786.00/year - $181,311.00/year for the state of California. Should the level, location, or scope of the position change during the hiring process, the pay scale may be modified accordingly. When extending an offer of employment, Leonardo DRS considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position; any Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, the candidate's relevant work experience, education/training, certifications, and key skills; internal equity; and market and business considerations.
