Welder/Fabricator
Rochester Hills, MI
$30 - $35/hour
Direct hire: 6am – 2:30pm

Kelly Services, in partnership with a specialized company in the industrial sector that focuses on high-quality fabrication and engineering solutions, is seeking a Welder/Fabricator. The Welder/Fabricator position involves working within a fabrication shop environment. The ideal candidate should have a comprehensive understanding of material fabrication methods, welding, heat treating, nondestructive examination, metal roll forming, cutting, machining, and other standard metal fabrication practices. The candidate must pass various welding performance qualification tests as directed by the Welding Engineer and demonstrate strong skills in reading and interpreting blueprints and utilizing standard measuring tools.

Responsibilities
  • Perform tasks under the supervision of the Shop Foreman and Welding Engineer.
  • Efficiently complete assigned fabrication projects with minimal supervision.
  • Examine Shop Traveler, drawings, and Welding Procedure Specifications for project understanding.
  • Ensure materials are correct, identified, and released for fabrication before further processing.
  • Verify all measurements before cutting or further processing, independently or through peer verification.
  • Prepare parts for fit-up, including cutting metal using oxy-fuel or plasma torches, band saws, grinders, drill press, Bridgeport, or lathe.
  • Fit, tack, and weld fabrications as required, adhering to specifications.
  • Perform tasks such as bolted assemblies, simple machining, fixture building, or cleaning.
  • Follow Welding Procedure Specification and Welding Program Manual requirements.
  • Document processes in the Weld Data Record, Shop Traveler, or other control documents.
  • Use only authorized filler metals and maintain traceability.
  • Notify Management of any nonconforming conditions.
  • Operate facility equipment, such as saws, fork trucks, cranes, and drill presses proficiently.
  • Process material according to operational procedures (burning and sawing).
  • Mark materials per company policies and weigh/count items for distribution to ensure standards conformance.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and use PPE as required.
  • Comply with applicable quality, engineering, and operations procedures.

Work Environment
  • Employee may work near moving mechanical parts.
  • Exposure to heat, noise, dust, fumes, and odors.
  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.
  • Required to wear appropriate PPE, including gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Expertise in GTAW, GMAW, and FCAW processes. Proficiency in Oxyfuel Torch-cutting and Plasma Arc cutting.
  • May need to pass a 6G GTAW super coupon test and a 6G GMAW/FCAW 6” pipe test.
  • Working knowledge of standard machine shop tools and equipment, including Bridgeport, drill press, band saw, grinder, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, standards, and specifications.
  • Effective utilization of resources to solve problems as they occur.
  • Highly motivated self-starter who works well independently.
