Key Responsibilities:
- Produce high-quality welds on steel and aluminum components according to strict specifications and drawings.
- Successfully pass weld qualifications in both steel and aluminum.
- Apply knowledge of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and utilize weld gages.
- Load and unload parts onto weld tables and fixtures using hand tools, ratchets, or air tools.
- Secure parts to fixtures effectively.
- Check parts against quality specifications and identify any defects.
- Troubleshoot welding problems and recommend or implement corrective actions.
- Operate hoists, pallet jacks, or forklifts to move materials and equipment.
- Work safely within a team environment and adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Complete necessary paperwork for work orders, labor, and time reporting, quality records, and other required documentation.
- Train other team members on welding techniques and best practices.
- Work effectively within a collaborative group setting.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills Required:
Welding Proficiency: - Successfully pass weld qualifications in both steel and aluminum
- Knowledge and application of WPS.
- Proficient in the use of weld gages.
- Strong understanding of shop math, including the ability to read and interpret blueprints and calculate dimensions.
- Ability to understand and interpret work orders, machine controls and settings, fixtures, and tool requirements.
- Ability to adjust machine settings and equipment as needed.
- Ability to hold and maneuver weld torches and operate foot and hand controls.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to operate a scissors lift, requiring a 27-inch step-up and 15-foot working heights.
- Ability to lift 32 pounds and apply 32 pounds of torque to ratchets.
- Ability to operate hoists, pallet jacks, or forklifts (forklift operation requires passing a certification test and the ability to step up 14 inches onto the forklift).
- Other:
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Skills Preferred:
- Experience with robotic welding systems.
- Lean manufacturing experience.
Experience Required:
- Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a defense or aerospace industry.
Education Required
Experience with a variety of welding processes (e.g., GMAW, SMAW, GTAW)
High School Diploma or GED
Technical training in welding from a vocational school, accredited technical college, or a reputable welding school (e.g., Hobart Weld School, Arclabs). - 5+ years of previous welding experience in GMAW of either Aluminum or Carbon Steel.
