Description

Job Description: Join our team as a Veterinary Technician and play a crucial role in supporting the health and well-being of our nonhuman primate colony. You will collaborate closely with our veterinary staff, assisting in the documentation and triage of animal health cases and performing a wide range of veterinary technical and husbandry tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist veterinary staff in documenting and triaging all animal health cases.
  • Perform various veterinary technical procedures including administering therapeutic measures, bandaging, parasitological testing, venipuncture, TB testing, dental scaling, and proficient animal restraint techniques.
  • Monitor critical care animals and perform follow-up observations as needed.
  • Maintain detailed schedules and records of animal health, treatments, and observations.
  • Support leadership by providing guidance and training to laboratory personnel.
  • Manage inventory and ensure the organization of veterinary examination rooms.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Conduct tissue sampling, routine necropsies, and administer fluids or treatments when required.
  • Perform routine technical and husbandry functions, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate of an AVMA-accredited collegiate veterinary technology program or equivalent.
  • Experience: 0-1 year of experience in a laboratory or clinical setting with animals.
  • Certification/Licensure: LVT license or CVT/RVT certification preferred. AALAS ALAT certification is a plus.
  • Skills: Proficient in veterinary technical and husbandry techniques, with excellent organizational, time management, and recordkeeping skills. Basic word processing and strong communication skills are essential.

Other Requirements:

  • Familiarity with Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Flexibility to work occasional weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.
  • Proof of measles immunity (MMR vaccine or titer).
