Senior Formulation Scientist - Polyurea, Polyurethane, Poly MMA

Location: Carlisle PA
Shift/Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm fully onsite lab based role
Salary: $90,000-$180,000/year depending on experience

Job Summary

This role involves leading laboratory work for the development of new products and reformulation efforts across adhesives, sealants, coatings, water/weather proofing, and asphalt systems. The scientist will collaborate closely with internal teams to influence product development and monitor industry trends to guide future innovations. Some domestic travel may be required to support product scale-up or resolve product issues.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead research on new and existing products, and identify and implement new technologies.
  • Required hands on formulation experience with polyurea, polyurethane and Polymethylmethacrylate (poly MMA)
  • Manage multiple New Product Development (NPD) projects from ideation to commercialization.
  • Support product development, performance improvement, raw material qualification, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including sales, marketing, manufacturing, and purchasing.
  • Document research and development work in technical reports.
  • Promote and ensure safe laboratory work practices.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Strong understanding of thermoplastic polymers' physical, chemical, and mechanical properties.
  • Ability to analyze data, assess structure-property relationships of polymers, and conduct relevant testing.
  • Experience with FTIR, DSC, TGA, and rheology analysis of polymers.
  • Expertise in designing experiments for formulation development.
  • Strong project management skills in a cross-functional environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Education and Experience

  • Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science required.
  • BS/MS with >10 years of experience or PhD with >5 years of experience.
  • Experience in adhesive or coatings for water/weatherproofing applications preferred.
  • Required hands on formulation experience with polyurea, polyurethane and Polymethylmethacrylate (poly MMA)

Working Conditions

  • Daily work in laboratory and office environments.
  • Occasional visits to manufacturing facilities.
