EH&S Safety Technician for Construction
SUMMARY:
Provides hands on Health and Safety activities for construction projects.
Monitors construction contractor performance to ensure excellence in the safe execution of construction work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Participate in Front End Loading on Projects where applicable
• Participate in and lead Pre-job safety meetings
• Lead monthly construction safety meeting (CSHA)
• Participate and lead incident investigations
• Coach contractors on incident investigation expectations including:
- What an incident is as defined by Engineering Solutions, Train contractor safety personnel on difference between incidents and High Potential Incidents,
- ensure all incidents are investigated and proper forms, statements, paperwork etc. is completed, powerpoint presentations are compiled for all High Potential Incidents and Recordable injuries, and proper follow-up for incident investigations are completed.
• Develop training modules for the plant standards that construction contractors can use to train their personnel
• Participate in and lead construction/shutdown safety meetings
• Conducts daily safety inspections/audits and document findings in observation tracker.
• Conducts BBP (safety) observations and documents them in a database.
• Interact with contractors on safety policy and procedures.
• Drives safety practices, processes and rules as required to meet “ZERO” injuries on all activities.
• Work with Construction Managers and Owner Representatives to achieve safety goals.
- Provides feedback to Construction Managers, Owner Representatives, Regional Safety Specialist and Regional Construction Manager on contractor's safety performance.
- Implements/manages detailed task level, day-to-day Personnel Safety Programs to ensure safe execution of work.
• Interfaces with the engineering and design groups on Safety activities where applicable.
• Works toward providing customer satisfaction with project results.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Excellent knowledge of construction safety practices and willingness to enforce those practices.
• Familiar with a variety of construction field's concepts, practices and procedures.
• Strong leadership ability
• Excellent communication skills.
• Demonstration of the ability to solve problems and make decisions at a task force level.
• Planning and organizational talent.
• Adaptable to changes.
• Strong initiative and able to work with very little oversight.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor or Associate Degree in Occupational Safety or equivalent discipline preferred.
A Safety and Health Certificate (15 credit hours minimum) from an accredited college A Safety and/or health certification through the American Board of Industrial Hygiene and/or the Board of Certified Safety Professional and/or The World Safety Organization
