Kelly Services is actively recruiting for a R&D/TS&D Technician for a Long Term Contract opportunity in Lake Jackson, TX.

Client has an exciting opportunity for a R&D/TS&D Technician in the Dow Industrial Solutions (DIS) Refining and Processing (R&P) customer service laboratory in Lake Jackson (Texas, USA). The R&P segment of DIS is an innovation-centric, fast-paced, and market-facing organization that combines formulated chemistries, engineering solutions, and state-of-art analytical capabilities to improve the performance of downstream oil and gas processes. Specifically, the DIS R&P customer service laboratory provides analytical and technical service support to gas processing and dehydration customers. Key laboratory technologies include titration, ion chromatography (IC), gas chromatography (GC), and inductively coupled plasma (ICP). The technical information generated in the laboratory serves as a key pillar in Dow's technical service offering to refining and gas treating customers.
The candidate for this role is expected to possess a strong technical focus, analytical acumen, and capability to balance their workload across different analytical technologies. Additionally, the successful candidate will be able to thrive in a high throughput team environment with a positive attitude and a strong focus on data quality and laboratory safety. Effective and timely communication of results to key project stakeholders is also a must.

JOB DESCRIPTION FOR R&D/TS&D TECHNICIAN:
 
The selected candidate will be required to perform general laboratory and analytical functions necessary to support Technical Services & Development projects within R&P. The qualified individual will spend 90% of time working in the laboratory. The employee will be expected to perform duties and activities that may include:

  • Actively engage in communications within a collaborative organization, including laboratory staff, research professionals, and field technical service.
  • Routinely generate aqueous- or solvent-based formulations containing amines, glycols, and solvents.
  • Operate laboratory and analytical equipment to obtain product performance and stability data. Some of the equipment operates at high temperature.
  • Operate lab instrumentation including, but not limited to Karl-Fischer titration, ion chromatography (IC), gas chromatography (GC), inductively coupled plasma (ICP), and others.
  • Assist with the development, evaluation, and implementation of new laboratory methods.
  • Evaluate analytical methods by obtaining data for verification of the applicability, reproducibility, accuracy, and reliability of the method.
  • Use computer software to analyze and evaluate lab experiments and data utilizing Excel, Nautilus LIMS, Word, PowerPoint, and available research software.
  • Develop proficiency in all routine laboratory methods critical for customer technical support (cross-training; back-up).
  • Perform sample shipping as needed
  • Perform laboratory chemical waste handling and packaging.
  • Support the commissioning and start-up of new process equipment, including method development, hazard analysis, and change management as necessary.
  • Communicate results through oral and Nautilus LIMS and direct interaction with chemists and engineers.
  • Commitment to work safety to build strong safety culture in all office, laboratory, and related activities.
  • Actively participate in building safety focus teams
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associates degree or higher in a relevant field of science. Background in chemistry is preferred.
  • Background in R&D/instrumental labs preferred.
  • Experience with formulations and amines products preferred.
  • Ability to perform light lab work including moving moderate sized lab instrumentation, gas cylinders, drums, and chemical inventories.
  • Willingness to work in a highly collaborative research laboratory setting.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and have a sense of prioritization based on customer needs.
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of demonstrated project execution. Self-motivated, high initiative, and good time management skills.
  • Experience writing and documenting technical data and reports and exposure to the management of change (MOC) system (or similar process).
  • Ability to wear and use PPE including monogoggles, nitrile gloves, closed toed shoes, and lab coat
A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States on a permanent basis (U.S. citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, or Qualifying Asylee/Refugee).
