  Pay: $100k-$125k (could be flexible depending on relevant experience)

Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled R&D Chemist to join our team, focusing on the research, design, and execution of experiments to drive product development and improvement. This role reports to the Laboratories and Research Manager and involves significant laboratory-based research to innovate, reverse-engineer, and enhance our product lines.

Key Responsibilities:

Research Laboratory

  • Conduct experiments aligned with product development and innovation strategies.
  • Formulate and evaluate product prototypes for chemical and physical properties, performance, and stability; enhance existing formulations as needed.
  • Perform reverse engineering and analyze competitors' products.
  • Recommend and coordinate third-party testing to support product development.
  • Stay current on scientific trends, materials, and formulation advancements via journals and technical papers.
  • Document and communicate findings effectively to stakeholders.
  • Maintain chemical inventory and Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) for research chemicals.
  • Ensure the research lab is safe, clean, and organized.
  • Build strong, respectful relationships with team members, customers, and vendors.
  • Participate in additional research activities as directed by the LRM.

Support Activities

  • Assist with scale-ups from prototype to full-scale production.
  • Support field evaluations of experimental products.
  • Assist in training new Chemists and supporting other departments as needed.

Reporting

  • Maintain accurate, timely reports on experimental processes and outcomes.
  • Generate additional reports as required.

Compliance

  • Adhere to safety protocols for Chemists and other staff in the lab.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Oversee interns or temporary laboratory staff, if assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Master's or PhD in Chemistry, Material Science, Engineering, or related science (highly preferred).
  • Preferred specializations include:
    • Architectural coatings or paints
    • Acrylate-based polymers
    • Concrete admixtures
    • Water-based emulsions

Skills Required

  • Extensive hands-on laboratory experience, with a strong foundation in experimental design and basic statistics.
  • Experience in water-based coatings formulations; knowledge of water-based emulsions and dispersions is a plus.
  • Understanding of concrete and concrete admixture chemistry is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; PowerPoint is a plus.
  • Excellent time management, communication, and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects while collaborating with team members.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Non-smoker/non-vaper.
