Process Safety Engineer
Austin, TX
6 month contract with possible extension
$60/HR+ (Depending on experience)


Responsibilities:

  • Leads factory engineering technical deep dives & options analysis & risk assessments for green field and brown field engineering projects.
  • Gathers and develops a deep understanding of stakeholder requirements needed to identify potential hazards and operability issues in early factory development.
  • Defines & effectively communicates factory design safety & hazard prioritization for internal and external factory engineering teams.
  • Drives scoping & implementation of engineering safety/ hazard mitigation design strategies
  • Owns execution of high-quality risk assessments & risk management deliverables
  • Facilitate risk assessments and work with external consultants/ partners as needed to conduct risks assessments such as HAZOP, What-IF, PHA, DHA, and other risk assessment methods
  • Lead efforts for modeling scenarios and working with external consultants/ partners as needed to conduct modeling such as CFD, FDS, PHAST, Canary, iPRISM, ALOHA, and other risk modeling tools.
  • Leads follow-through reviews/ coordination to ensure identified risks & mitigation efforts have been included in engineering design.
  • Supports technical studies such as feasibility and value engineering exercises related to safety & risk management.
  • Assist in Hazardous Chemical management program as required.

Requirements:
  • B.S. in Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams and engineering firms to identify and implement PSM engineering requirements.
  • Full understanding of core engineering disciplines and ability to demonstrate skills to manage and facilitate engineering resources.
  • Experience designing manufacturing facilities, Chemical Process, Battery, Oil & Gas, or Semiconductor.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills with the ability to understand complex problems and distill the message into a clear plan.
  • PHA/HAZOP/DHA/What-If facilitation or technical evaluation experience.
  • Dispersion analysis, flammability analysis, consequence modeling, combustible dust hazards, reactive hazard analyses & evaluation.
