Overview
Our client is an innovative company dedicated to designing and delivering cutting-edge solutions that enhance oil and gas well production. As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will play a critical role in leading the design, testing, and qualification of advanced downhole production tools. This position requires technical leadership, hands-on involvement, and a proactive approach to driving innovation and project success in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop mechanical systems and components, conducting detailed analyses to ensure they meet project requirements.
- Provide technical direction and support to team members in design, manufacturing, and operations.
- Create layouts and perform engineering calculations for new and revised equipment designs.• Participate in design reviews, offering recommendations for optimal solutions.
- Contribute to the development of design and installation specifications, as well as commissioning plans.
- Oversee prototype assembly and lab testing for product qualification.
- Review part and assembly drawings, offering insights on manufacturability and assembly processes.
- Develop acceptance testing protocols and inspection criteria for new equipment.
- Document specifications, assembly procedures, and repair processes for products.
- Troubleshoot field challenges and recommend best practices for field operations.
- Initiate, review, and approve change notices, test requests, and test reports.
- Lead projects with minimal supervision while maintaining safety and environmental compliance.
- Travel to field locations as needed to support engineering tests.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 5 years of experience (10+ years preferred) in product development.
- Familiarity with the design of gas production and separation tools, or other downhole completion tools, is preferred but not required.
- Experience in sand management is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Proficiency in the full product development lifecycle, including concept, design, prototyping, testing, manufacturing, field deployment, and ongoing support.
- Hands-on experience in building test setups to validate product performance.
- Strong expertise in mechanical design practices, including material selection and knowledge of manufacturing processes like casting, machining, heat treating, and fabrication.
- Proficiency with 3D modeling software (SolidWorks preferred).
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience with tools like JIRA, SAP, NetSuite, and Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with project management, reliability engineering, and root cause analysis.
