Operational Buyer

Location: Nederland, TX
Pay Rate: $42-55/hr, DOE
Schedule: 9/80 with alternating Fridays off

Job Overview:
The Operational Buyer plays a pivotal role in supporting procurement operations throughout various project phases. This role is responsible for tasks such as creating suppliers, processing purchase orders (POs), addressing supplier-related issues, and offering commercial support across all project activities. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of procurement experience and the ability to handle transactional and tactical responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Master Data Management:

    • Trigger and monitor the creation/maintenance of suppliers, Purchase Information Records (PIRs), and contracts in ERP systems (preferably SAP S4 Hana).
    • Maintain accurate catalog pricing, minimum order quantities (MOQ), and supplier information.
  • Purchase Order (PO) Management:

    • Analyze replenishment or MRP advice for warehouse needs.
    • Convert requisitions into POs and ensure complete supplier order packages, including specs and drawings.
    • Monitor PO progress, delivery timelines, and issue resolution for POs and invoices.
    • Resolve supplier questions, delivery issues, and quality concerns in consultation with the warehouse and quality teams.
  • Request for Quotation (RFQ) and Supplier Selection:

    • Under the guidance of the Procurement Manager or Category Manager, issue RFQs or RFPs for products and services.
    • Evaluate supplier quotes, preselect suppliers, and assist with awarding contracts.
  • Continuous Improvement:

    • Identify recurring procurement problems and work towards process improvement.
    • Collaborate on long-term agreements, risk item management, and sourcing strategies for larger-scale procurement needs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management (SCM), Procurement, or related field (preferred).
  • Procurement certification (CIPS, ISM, or similar) strongly preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in operational procurement, with knowledge of ERP systems (preferably SAP S4 Hana).
  • Demonstrated experience with RFQs, purchase order management, contract negotiations, and supplier vetting.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficiency in operational procurement processes and handling both transactional and tactical responsibilities.
  • Ability to handle complex P-to-P tasks, such as managing multiple bids, evaluating agreements, and negotiating contracts.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • TWIC card (Transportation Workers Identification Credential)
  • CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) or CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional)
