Mechanical Engineer – Woodworking/ Mill working, Cabinet Vision, Project Management.
Job Summary:
Kelly Engineering is currently accepting applications for our client, for a skilled and innovative Mechanical Engineer to join a woodworking team. Client builds custom architectural millwork in the Maryland/District of Columbia/Virginia area. They do very high-end work as well as typical office build outs/construction. Products range from custom trim, cabinetry, countertops, reception desks, wall panels, and so much more..
The type of person we are looking for is someone with a Mechanical Engineering Background, that is highly competent in AutoCAD. Client uses a CAM software called MICROVELLUM, which would be a plus (Microvellum, Cabinet Vision, Millworking, etc.).
Key Responsibilities:
Design and Optimization; Develop and improve mechanical designs for woodworking processes, machinery, and production equipment to maximize efficiency and quality.
Collaborate with Drafters, Architects, and other specialists to integrate mechanical systems into building plans.
Process Improvement; Collaborate with production and quality teams to identify areas for improvement and implement lean manufacturing practices to enhance workflow and reduce waste.
Quality Control; Support product quality through testing, calibrating, and adjusting equipment to ensure consistent adherence to design and safety standards.
Project MANAGEMENT; Support Project Managers leading engineering projects from conception to completion, including sourcing materials, developing timelines, and coordinating with contractors and suppliers.
Qualifications:
The type of person we are looking for is someone with a Mechanical Engineering Background and is highly competent in AutoCAD.
Woodworking, millworking or cabinetry businesses.
MICROVELLUM or similar CAM Software (CABINET VISION, etc.. software used for CAD to Manufacturing/ CNC integration- Mozaik, Sketch up, Fusion 360, Rhino, etc..).
Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Experience: 3-5 years of experience minimum in a woodworking, mill working or similar environment.
Technical Skills; Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, understanding of CNC programming and maintenance, and knowledge of material handling and woodworking machinery.
Analytical Skills; Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in process optimization and quality control.
Communication; Effective communication skills to work cross-functionally and document engineering specifications, procedures, and reports.
