Kelly® Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for a direct-hire position at a leading provider of advanced instruments, avionics, and power solutions in Wichita, KS. Overview

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the mechanical design and development of new products, including concept development, prototyping, testing, and production introduction. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to the creation of innovative aerospace solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Optimize mechanical design considering performance, size, weight, cost, and timeline constraints.
  • Apply expertise in extrusions, sheet metal, enclosures/housings, machining, molding, and electrical systems.
  • Research new technologies, materials, and manufacturing processes for integration into new designs.
  • Develop 3D models, 2D drawings, and documentation in SolidWorks.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and support qualification testing of new products.
  • Manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) in the ERP system.
  • Create manufacturing work instructions and design tooling/assembly fixtures as needed.
  • Evaluate and qualify parts and vendors for new and existing designs.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in electromechanical design or SolidWorks, with expertise in integrating mechanical and electrical requirements.
  • Experience in electrical enclosures, PCB housings, and instruments with LCD screens, charging ports, inverters, and battery backup systems.
  • Background in rugged product design for industries such as military, telecom, marine, or automotive.
  • Strong Design for Manufacturing (DFM) skills, with experience designing components for outsourced manufacturing while supporting in-house assembly.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, including new product development (NPD) and sustaining engineering tasks.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D modeling and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and organizational abilities.
  • US Citizenship is required
