Description

Kelly Science has an immediate opening for a Materials Lab Technician (Night Shift) for our growing client in Huntsville, AL

Pay: $20/hr

Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated Materials Lab Technician to support operations in our materials lab. This role is essential to our company's needs and focuses on processing, testing, and analyzing materials in a dynamic and hands-on environment. Candidates should be prepared to perform physical tasks and engage in detailed material testing. The position involves operating furnaces and presses, handling various testing procedures, and contributing to product quality and development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate presses and furnaces to process powder into parts.
  • Load and unload furnaces, ensuring parts are placed into trays for heat treatment and processing.
  • Perform sample preparation for lab testing, including hardness, density, hot corrosion (HC) testing, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and microscopy.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
  • Participate in regular lab testing and data reporting to ensure material quality standards are met.

Day-to-Day Tasks:

  • Pressing powder into parts for product development.
  • Transporting parts to furnaces, monitoring processing, and recording results.
  • Conducting physical testing and data collection, including hardness and density testing.
  • Performing occasional computer tasks related to data entry and test results.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Prior experience in a lab setting, particularly in metallurgical or materials testing, is highly desirable. Candidates with experience operating furnaces or presses will be given priority.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 25-30 lbs, as this is a physically demanding role. The job involves standing, moving between workstations, and working in a "dirty" environment with raw materials.
  • Skills: Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting are preferred. Familiarity with lab equipment and testing procedures is a plus.
  • Education: A degree in materials science, metallurgy, or a related field is desirable but not required if the candidate has relevant hands-on experience.

Shift Details:

  • The role requires night shift coverage, typically falling within second shift hours (not full overnight).
  • Weekend coverage is required, with shifts running from Tuesday through Saturday.
  • Training will be provided on your home shift with an experienced operator.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in metallurgy or materials testing, especially in operating furnaces, presses, or conducting detailed lab testing, will set candidates apart.
