Title: Machine Tool Builder
Location: Rolling Meadows, IL
Type: Contract-to-Permanent
Travel Required: Up to 75%
Pay Rate: $37.00 - $44.00 per hour (+ travel bonus)
The Machine Tool Builder will be responsible for assembling, fitting, and testing precision machine tools and automation equipment. This position is ideal for an experienced machinist, mechanical assembler, or toolmaker who enjoys hands-on work, troubleshooting, and working with complex mechanical and electrical systems.
Responsibilities:
- Assemble and install mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components of automated machine tools.
- Fit and align components using precision measurement tools such as dial indicators, micrometers, and calipers.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and machine assembly drawings.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues.
- Assist in machine startup, testing, and debugging to ensure proper function.
- Modify parts and components as necessary using hand tools and machining equipment.
- Work with engineers and technicians to refine designs and optimize assembly processes.
- Travel to domestic and international customer sites for machine installation and troubleshooting.
- Ensure compliance with customer safety and plant regulations during installations.
- Maintain accurate records of assembly processes, modifications, and service reports.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and quality.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training in machining, tool and die, or mechanical assembly preferred.
- 3-6 years of experience in machine building, precision assembly, or toolmaking.
- Strong proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics.
- Experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, and basic electrical wiring is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for machine installations and service.
