Insectary Technician
Kelly Outsourcing Consulting Group Kelly OCG, a managed solution provider and business unit of Kelly Services, Inc., is currently seeking a Insectary Technician for a long-term engagement at one of our Global agriculture clients in Indianapolis, IN. This role is a full-time, fully benefited position. As a Kelly OCG employee, you will be eligible for Medical, Dental, 401K and paid time off, including holiday, vacation and sick/personal time.
Schedule - 7am to 330pm Monday through Friday
Pay $21-22 an hour
Insectary Technician, you will play a vital role in the maintenance and operation of our insectary facilities. This position requires a keen eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and a passion for entomology. You will work closely with researchers and scientists to ensure the success of ongoing experiments and projects while maintaining a high standard of facility cleanliness and organization.
Responsibilities: • Insect Colony Care & Maintenance
• Insect diet & media preparation
• Support Insect Management research trials
• Production and maintenance of various insect & nematode cultures
• Contribute to developing techniques in rearing of new insect species
• Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to assist in insect management research
• Assist in Insectary tasks as needed including Insectary media production.
• Interfacing with researchers, and having strong customer focus, organization and time management skills
• Follow standard operating procedures, reporting & assist troubleshooting colony issues, colony data collection
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Adhere to internal safety policies & compliance regulations Qualifications:
- The team is looking for someone comfortable working with insects and organisms, familiar with pipets, conclaves, making gel media, preparing diets, wearing PPE and following a strict protocol, cleaning convirons covered in bugs, and if possible lab experience from college. Little to no experience is required if they have studied biology, microbiology, or entomology.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time and possess acute attention to detail.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Must be able to work in a team environment and be comfortable working alone on solitary tasks as well.
• Must have good organization skills, great attention to detail, follow SOPs & verbal instructions, and adhere to safety & compliance protocols.
• Should be able to complete tasks with little supervision after the initial training period is over.
• Must be a fast learner and flexible as tasks, customer requests change frequently or with little notice.
• Time management is very important as most tasks need to be started and completed within the same day.
