Product Stewardship Specialist – Global Environmental Packaging 
Blue Ash, Ohio | Remote / Virtual (Midwest highly preferred)
Pay Starts: $50/hr +/- DOE (No C2C)

Purpose: To serve as the global Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all Environmental Packaging requirements – including, but not limited to, Packaging & Packaging Waste (PPW), Packaging EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility), Plastics Packaging taxes and other environmental packaging requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor Enterprise and other regulatory tracking tools for intelligence gathering, understanding and interpretation of global Environmental Packaging requirements such as Packaging/Packaging Waste (PPW), Packaging Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), Plastics Packaging taxes and other global environmental packaging emerging risks.
  • Creating and issuing communications summarizing key regulatory requirements and timelines as needed for Environmental Packaging regulations and standards. 
  • Lead completion of all global Environmental Packaging impact assessments per stated timelines, working in coordination with the MT Emerging Risks (PSER) Intake Team and utilizing the MT PSER Process.
  • Create and maintain global Environmental Packaging regulatory trackers, compliance dashboards and communication decks to provide periodic updates to MT PS leadership. 
  • Monitor legislative developments and amendments to existing environmental packaging regulations (regional, country specific, federal, state, etc.), communicate and escalate (as appropriate) to Business Units and regional PS leads and other key stakeholders, as necessary.
  • Partner with Governmental Affairs & Policy to actively participate on trade groups, industry association task forces and working groups to support advocacy efforts. 
  • Lead the creation of position papers and statements as appropriate.
  • Update and maintain inventories.
  • Support the development of environmental packaging procedures, policies, guidelines, and work instructions as needed to support regional and Business Unit PS leads.
  • Support internal or external compliance assessments, including the participation in and support of annual and periodic PS assessments, executing assigned action items and CAPAs on-time.
  • Provide SME support to regional PS leads as needed on compliance execution project teams for local/in-country/regional stakeholders.
  • Lead MedTech Environmental Packaging Community of Practice (COP) by scheduling and leading meetings, preparing presentations, and training materials, issuing meeting minutes/action items, create and track resulting COP action plans to completion.
  • Represent MedTech Product Stewardship on the Enterprise Packaging EPR Community of Practice (COP). 
  • Maintain Teams site content.
  • Support the upkeep and maintenance of applicable material data collection and management/reporting systems, partnering with content and system owners as needed.
  • Interface with Package Development, R&D teams, Regulatory, GA&P, Commercial, Supply Chain, Supplier Management and other key stakeholders as needed. 
  • Support teams by providing responses to internal questions and customer inquiries (e.g. – EPP) as needed.

Performance Standards
  • Provide the Subject Matter Expertise for all global Environmental Packaging requirements. 
  • Provide Advocacy support on emerging global Environmental Packaging requirements. 
  • Improve response time for completing impact assessments on emerging Environmental Packaging risks. 
  • Support key stakeholders to ensure business-critical timelines are met.
  • Support regulatory compliance assessments and CAPA closure activities.
  • Regularly keep procedures, global trackers, and inventories updated to reflect current requirements.
  • Improve customer inquiry response time. 
  • Maintain monthly metrics and summaries regarding accomplishments.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 8+ years of relevant EPR and Packaging/Packaging Waste compliance execution and program development, as well as implementation experience within an industry/company setting is required.
  • Product Stewardship/Global Packaging, regulatory and engineering background.
  • University (Bachelor's) degree is required, University (Master's) degree or equivalent is preferred, major in an EHS / Engineering field is preferred. 
  • Experience in healthcare/medical devices is preferred. 
  • Experience providing advocacy support for PPW and EPR is preferred. 

Key Competencies
  • Excellent regulatory knowledge and background in managing global Environmental Packaging compliance requirements is a must. 
  • Firsthand experience with implementing global Environmental Packaging regulatory programs is a must. Must be able to demonstrate direct industry experience in these areas.
  • Experience in understanding emerging issues and then translating them into actionable plans is a must. 
  • Experience in supporting advocacy efforts in EMEA and/or US for Environmental Packaging is a plus. 
  • Relevant auditing experience with focus on global Environmental Packaging regulations is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, solve problems using good judgment, ethical, organized and priority-driven is a must 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication / presentation skills, able to translate technical information into layperson terms, completes work in a timely manner, strong attention to detail, initiative-taking and stays abreast of regulatory changes / trends. Sees the big picture, while not losing sight of the details.
  • Works well in teams, an individual contributor, as a facilitator, and leader. Collaborates within and outside the PS organization, at all levels, both locally and globally.
  • Ability to work well within a highly matrixed environment is a must.
