Design Engineer
Chicago Heights, IL 
Direct Hire - Salary 90K +/- Depending on fit and experience 

  • Engineering Degree not required / 5+ year experience in tool design
  • Must be able to work W/O Sponsorship 

Job Description 
  • The Design Engineer will execute custom designs for customer-specific applications for manufacturing.
  • Complete tooling 3D design and 2D (SolidWorks preferred) drawings based on specifications for each application.
  • Prefer a combination of tooling for wood and metals applications.
  • The engineer will be challenged with a balance of projects for active orders and work towards projects.
  • The engineer will work with the Project Managers, Account Managers, and Manufacturing Engineering to scope potential projects, innovate design ideas, create prototypes, review possible improvements, perform validation testing, and complete cost analyses to determine pricing which will be profitable and competitive.
  • Ensure all products provide a high-quality level that meets customer expectations.
  • The engineer will be part of the approval process to ensure that the different products are fully operational, effective, and free from defects.
  • Verifying the quality and performance of the products, in addition to troubleshooting, and the rectification of any existing errors or defects, are the primary duties.
  • Other collaborative duties will be related to providing sizing and specifications for custom designs and overall production support for other engineers.
  • Selects commercial components and materials of construction for individual parts and assemblies.
  • Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, strength of materials and other physical sciences to check and/or complete drawings.
  • Checks and approves detailed drawings done by others prior to fabrication. 
  • Revises assembly, detail drawings, and bills of material as required.
  • Continuous pattern of regular and prompt attendance is required.
  • Work on projects to bring new designs and production capabilities into the business. 
  • Generate unique design solutions for customer-specific applications.
  • Generate full production documentation and bills of materials for production.
  • Communicate with the production department and Manufacturing Engineering to resolve part fabrication, assembly, and testing issues.
  • Handle post-production issues with projects.
  • Regularly meet with the engineering team to discuss strategies to improve design practices and efficiencies to improve quality and increase throughput.
  • Process ECRs to capture all changes or errors caught during production.
  • Establish a framework for necessary contributions from various departments and facilitate their collaboration.
