Directs and manages projects of minor to major in size and scope. Responsible for the design, definition, and proposal development, manage budget, and develop policies/standard operating procedures to ensure operational compliance are met. This position utilizes change management and project management disciplines for a successful implementation and completion of organizational initiatives. The Project Director collaborates with executive leaders to prepare and execute high level projects. Leads and directs multidisciplinary teams on operations planning and milestone tracking for strategic initiatives. The Senior Director is responsible for developing and management of USC Student Health data warehouse and business intelligence platform to standardize and consolidate operational, and population and individual clinical key performance indicators in support of organization strategies. In addition, this role is responsible for the clinical informatics application(s), in partnership with the Information Systems department. The Senior Director directs the communication needs regarding clinical applications between Information Systems staff, leadership team in addition to the clinical and administrative users of the systems. The position supports the integration of population level data from outside clinical applications into the data warehouse. This position will focus on aligning with the overall vision in key initiatives to achieving business objectives. Working with key stakeholders for direction, this position will provide leadership support on operational initiatives that integrate staff, provider, and facility considerations as it relates to Information Systems and additional operations, as applicable.

Essential Duties:

  • Management and Administration: Oversees the selection and training of qualified program staff, assigning clear roles and responsibilities, providing effective supervision, and managing performance to ensure efficient operations. Oversees performance management for project staff. Directs the setting of goals and priorities and motivates and monitors the progress of staff including senior technical staff. Serves as the primary resource for project information. Develops effective oral presentations for large audiences. Participates in discussions and maintains an active network of contacts. Participates in University policy level committees and works directly with top academic and staff administrators Coordinate interactions and ensure to streamline stakeholders, cross functional teams and Senior Management teams. Manage process enhancements and varied special projects to execute solutions to attain key performance improvement or reduce risk.
  • Project Management and Process Development: Provides strategic leadership and technical, operational, financial, and managerial leadership for successful implementation of project activities. Defines and organizes projects. Plans objectives and strategies and develops proposals. Analyze proposed projects, quantify impact as projected on project plans. Provides oversight of program implementation including all activities, outputs, and outcomes related to project management and administration, including reporting, budget development and monitoring, financial transactions, execution of project plans, and project performance. Directs project activities and evaluates and interprets results. Plans and organizes meetings, trainings, and communications to disseminate information. Develops policies and procedures. Conducts monthly reviews to ensure accountability of all project activities as well as the accurate and timely reporting of financial deliverables and obligations. Plans marketing strategies to promote project visibility. Seeks marketing and communications support and conduct surveys to measure productivity.
  • Clinical Informatic Management: In collaboration with information systems, directs the selection, implementation, training, and evaluation of clinical quality databases; Knowledgeable on the operation of the database and interoperability; as updates occur, keeps abreast of new changes. Use clinical, quality, and informatics knowledge to provide content expertise in quality and patient safety for data analytics and development of new quality analytic solutions. Directs the Clinical Informatics team and their duties. Employees are engaged in the work of the department and focused on achieving department, hospital and system goals. Employees express satisfaction with departmental operations; trains employees on clinical data abstraction and analytics. Establishes and follows through on data strategy, including, but not limited to report automation, quality control, data warehouse applications, data integrity, report clarity and aesthetics. Monitors application use, system performance and stability, collaborating with applicable individuals to resolve any issues proactively or as they are found. Communicates effectively and contributes to positive interdepartmental relationships between technical and clinical staff; works in collaboration with clinical leaders to translate information to end users. Collaborates with population and public health teams to integrate population metrics into the datawarehouse and business intelligence tools.
  • Budget Management: Develops and manages budgets. Authorizes expenditures. Directs the reconciliation of accounts and preparation of financial reports. Manages staff affiliated with project. Determines staffing levels based on project objectives and operational plans and schedule

Required Qualifications:

  • Req Bachelor's Degree
  • Req Master's degree
  • Req 5-7 years Project management experience with progressive management experience
  • Req Experience in managing clinical data preparation in a health care environment; data abstraction, and validation
  • Req Education and experience directly related to healthcare.
  • Req Demonstrated diplomatic, management, and communication skills to liaise and advocate with key stakeholders.
  • Req Proven ability to write technical reports and program documents and deliver presentations.
  • Req Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate cross-culturally.

  • Req Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

The annual base salary range for this position is $133,120.00 - $219,648.00. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
