As an integral part of the interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to patients.
As an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process and their clinical knowledge to provide therapeutic care to patients and their families participating in radiation therapy in an outpatient setting. The RN is responsible for assessing patient needs, managing side effects, instituting preventative measures with a strong emphasis on patient education throughout all levels of radiation treatment and recovery. This position must be flexible to cover other satellite clinics as needed and perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties:
- Participates in ongoing Departmental Process Improvement projects.
- Supports continuous and ongoing customer satisfaction through the hospital wide service excellence standards.
- Collaborates with management for Special Procedures / Radiology flow issues.
- Inventory control and cost-effective use of supplies and equipment.
- Completes initial and annual skills validations.
- Functions as a patient advocate. May also direct patients to internal and external resources, support groups, social services, patient education library, etc.
- Assesses a patient's knowledge base/understanding of their diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedure and completes nursing assessment and screening upon patient arrival.
- Plans, with the patient, the course of their testing/treatment in coordination with physician.
- Provides for continuous evaluation of patient care through the nursing process and patient satisfaction evaluation form.
- Educates patient/patient's family about procedure and treatment according to each patient's individual needs, develops and participates in patient education materials, and documents results.
- Documents accurately, on chart or EMR, procedures performed and patient's tolerance.
- Provides for own professional growth regarding trends in clinical nursing, equipment and procedures through formal and informal continuing education.
- Orients and instructs other unit personnel. Demonstrates ability to positively influence other's behavior by serving as a role model.
- Performs other relate duties as assigned.
- Formulates nursing diagnosis based on assessment information.
- Performs a complete nursing exam and health history for new patients and reevaluates as necessary.
- Facilitates continuity of care for patients during transitions between hospital, home, and ambulatory care settings.
- Provides care appropriate to the age of the patient, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development.
- Maintains professional code of ethics and scope of practice by adhering to national, Institutional, and departmental standards, policies, and procedures.
- Follows departmental procedures to capture patient care charges for supplies and patient visits.
- Observes regulatory agency requirements on National Patient Safety Goals, Hazardous Waste Management, HIPPA.
- Participates in ongoing Departmental Process Improvement projects, including data collection and process improvements.
- Prioritizes assignments for timely completion of work and organizes workflow.
- Performs other relate duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Req Bachelor's degree Nursing Degree in Nursing (BSN) *Grandfathered from BSN if hired prior to 12/2019
- Req 1 year Minimum one year oncology experience.
- Req Must have excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak, read and write English proficiently.
- Req Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions to understand, follow and successfully perform duties in accordance with administrative and clinical policies, regulations and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Pref Oncology Certified Nurse - OCN (ONCC)
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Req Registered Nurse - RN (CA Board of Registered Nursing)
- Req Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
- Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
The hourly rate range for this position is $53.00 - $87.45.
