Kamehameha Schools Kapālama is looking for a Strength & Conditioning Coach (Temporary) to support its S&C team in working with student athletes! The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with K-12 student athletes and committed to youth development. Strong communication skills, flexibility in training styles, are a plus. Job Summary

Responsible for the supervision of the Athletics weight room and for developing appropriate strength and conditioning programs for student athletics. Maintains records of performance levels to report and analyze. Ensures safe usage of equipment and enforces all rules and regulations.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Designs and implements strength and conditioning programs for student athletes. Conducts training programs for teams to maximize performance and works closely with coaches to schedule usage.
  • Supervises weight room to ensure proper and safe use of equipment. Demonstrates correct procedures for equipment to minimize injuries or accidents.
  • Monitors individual and team performance levels with pre- and post-testing. Customizes workouts for student athletes to match individual and team performance goals.
  • Maintains daily usage log and collects data to prepare written reports and analyses.
  • Cleans, maintains, and repairs weight room equipment. Consults with Supervisor to order equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Works with student-athletes needing rehabilitation.
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications - A combination of education and experience may be substituted for the requirements listed.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Sports Training, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a directly related field.
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, coaches and other staff members.
  • Ability to motivate and lead students/staff to specific goals.
  • High level of personal fitness as role model and teacher.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing; i.e., reports, e-mail, etc.
  • Ability to perform minor equipment repairs.
  • Ability to work hours as specified after-school.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Previous experience working with middle and high school aged students, preferably in a fitness or PE environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
  • Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.

Working Conditions

  • This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
  • Work is conducted in an office/school environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
  • Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but evening and weekend hours are often required to meet goals and objectives.
