Kamehameha Schools Hawaii campus is seeking to hire Experiential Educators for our K-8 2025 Kauluhala Summer Academy.

Job Summary

Collaborates with instructional team to design and facilitate authentic, meaningful and grade-level appropriate experiences where students can explore and apply important skills like empathy, grit, resilience, and social responsibility. 

Attends program-specific professional development workshops and applies innovative educational strategies to develop an enrichment focus that leverages the educator's strengths and interests such as improv, sports, art, music, robotics, coding, animation, design, etc. Regularly assesses student progress and uses data to modify curriculum and instruction. Models mutual respect and enforces Summer Program rules and regulations in a positive and formative manner. Effectively communicates with students, parents, colleagues, and program administrators.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Attends program-specific professional development workshops and applies innovative educational strategies to develop an enrichment focus that leverages the educator's strengths and interests such as improv, sports, art, music, robotics, coding, animation, design, etc.
  • Regularly assesses student progress and uses data to modify curriculum and instruction.
  • Models mutual respect and enforces Summer Program rules and regulations in a positive and formative manner.
  • Effectively communicates with students, parents, colleagues, and Program Administrators.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.

  • Bachelor's Degree from a nationally accredited college and/or university in Education or closely related field of primary instructional responsibilities.
  • Minimum 1 year of related work experience
  • Knowledge of culturally relevant, age-appropriate educational strategies
  • Ability to attend five days of pre-program professional development
  • Ability to manage small and large groups of students in classroom and field learning activities
  • Possesses effective communication skills that build and strengthen relationships with and between students, faculty/staff, 'ohana, and administrators
  • Employs excellent organizational skills to coordinate numerous student activities and meet varied deadlines
  • Experienced with cultural protocol and has working knowledge of the Hawaiian language

Preferred Qualifications

  • Summer program teaching experience
  • Previous teaching experience in any of the following areas: Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, Math, Literacy
  • Familiarity with Hawaiian culture-based methodologies, 'aina-based learning, and/or Moenaha
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and Christian values
  • Possesses a flexible growth mindset focused on cultural innovation to facilitate learning

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently sits, stands, walks and bends to manage the classroom of school-aged children.
  • Perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
  • Occasionally works outdoors, including walking on uneven ground and in outdoor weather including sun, wind and rain.
  • Occasionally lifts and/or carries, pushes and/or pulls objects that weigh 20 pounds.
  • Rarely twist, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.

Working Conditions

  • Work is conducted in a school environment and requires work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces for off-campus huaka'i.
  • Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but evening and weekend hours may be required to meet goals and objectives.
  • Work is intense and fast-paced, with hands-on, project-based learning for students.
  • Work in an innovation laboratory context such as Halau Kupukupu requires flexibility and willingness for visits/observations by interested KS staff and partner stakeholders as determined by administration.
