Kaiser Permanente is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) OR - Operating Room for a nursing job in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Job Summary:
Under direct supervision, performs safe, courteous, and timely transport of patients; assists with transport of equipment, supplies, specimens and other items as directed. provides direct patient care by assisting with surgical preps, patient positioning, and communication with patients and family regarding surgical times, patient discharge and educational information as appropriate; assists with stocking and unloading of surgical supplies. performs other duties in department according to departmental policies, procedures and patient care needs; coordinates care needs of surgical patient with department nursing and technical staff to assure delivery of safe, quality customer service oriented care.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Coordinates pick up of surgical patients with department scheduling facilitator and nursing staff to assure timely arrival of patients.

  • Utilizes safety precautions in moving, transport and/or transfer of all patients; transfers of surgical patient is done with consideration of patient age, physical limitations and condition; verifies correct patient delivery in surgical suite.

  • Verifies patient identity and assures preoperative requirements have been met prior to transport of surgical patient; verifies identiband, chart and surgical procedure.

  • Provides information and is courteous and friendly to patients and family; assists in keeping patients and family informed of surgical times, delays, etc.

  • Assists OR staff with direct patient care by providing surgical prep, patient positioning, and other care needs as directed.

  • Observes universal precautions in delivery of all patient care.

  • Observes sterile technique in delivery of care provided in OR suite and adheres to all departmental Infection Control Practices; monitors and reports deviations from practice by others.

  • Assists Anesthesia staff with patient positioning for spinals and in monitoring control and protection of disoriented patients.

  • Picks-up, delivers, and/or returns records, supplies, equipment x-rays, specimens, etc. to and from other departments in clinic or hospital.

  • Assists with unloading of surgical supply deliveries; assists Instrument Aides in restocking of surgical supplies, packs, trays, equipment etc.; assists with monitoring and documentation of correct supply delivery.

  • Orders and monitors availability of oxygen and nitrous tanks stored in department; assures safe storage adhering to policies and guidelines of same.

  • Assists in maintaining department orderliness, cleanliness and efficiency.

  • Organizes OR equipment room to assure proper and safe storage; assures availability for use when needed.

  • Observes policies and protocols (e.g., Safety and Emergency Response Policies, Fire Plan- Departmental Traffic Pattern Procedures, Infection Control Policies and Procedures, Universal Precautions, Handwashing and Surgical Asepsis Procedures, Department Emergency Codes and Response Procedures).

  • Maintains par levels of surgical attire, linen supplies, masks, caps and shoe covers located in surgical suite and scrub stations; maintains supply of stretchers and assures proper working condition of same.

  • Initiates work repair orders and documents in departmental log.

  • Stocks warming units with blankets, solutions, etc.

  • Picks-up, transports, and delivers surgical schedules to appropriate departments.

  • Exchanges sterile and non-sterile carts for instrument technicians.

  • Answers phones and delivers messages to staff, physicians, patients, and visitors.

  • Assists with application and removal of casts and splints.

  • Assists SurgiCenter and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) staff as time permits.

  • Collaborates with other team members to improve departments performance and assists others in performing their roles in providing quality patient care services.

  • Demonstrates sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities in area of specialization.

  • Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide care and/or service appropriate to age groups served.

  • Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide culturally sensitive care and/or service.

  • Performs other duties and accepts responsibility as assigned.
Basic Qualifications: Experience

  • Experience or successful completion of training program (pre-hire, post-hire, or on-the-job) in area of specialty, if applicable.

Education
  • High school diploma; or equivalent combination of education (lesser) & experience may be considered in lieu of requirements.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Basic Life Support from American Heart Association

  • Reading, writing, speaking and understanding English.
