The Heart Institute at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital (JDCH) is seeking an experienced leader to become the Medical Director of the Pediatric Cardiac Transplant, Heart Failure, and Cardiomyopathy Programs atas the Medical Director. The Heart Transplant Program was started in 2010 and has become the second busiest program in the state of Florida.

The physician must be board-certified in Pediatric Cardiology and have demonstrated expertise managing end-stage and advanced heart failure, both medically and utilizing mechanical circulatory support (MCS) and caring for cardiac transplant patients. Extensive knowledge of UNOS and other regulatory guidelines for transplant practices, and evidence of scientific reasoning and authorship on peer reviewed publications is expected. The qualified physician will join a multi-disciplinary team of transplant, heart failure, and MCS cardiologists and advanced practice providers to provide comprehensive care to pediatric and young adult patients, The Medical Director will be actively involved in Memorial's ACGME-accredited Graduate Medical Education programs and should have the desire to teach residents and fellows. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills, evidence of program leadership and development, team-building, and strategic planning as they apply to the continued excellence and programmatic growth.

The rapidly growing Cardiology Division consists of 24 Cardiologists, 3 surgeons, 5 interventional catheterization doctors, and 3 transplant physicians. Over 600 catheterizations and 10,000 echos are performed annually at JDCH. JDCH boasts excellent support for clinical research and there is ample opportunity for involvement. Our center participates in several multicenter studies, trials, and registries. Complementing the Heart Institute, Memorial Healthcare System has comprehensive programs, including the Transplant Institute, located onsite, to provide oversight and additional resources for our program.

This is a full-time employed position with the Memorial Physician Group. The position offers competitive benefits and a compensation package that is commensurate with training and experience. Professional malpractice and medical liability are covered under sovereign immunity.

Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital is a 216 bed free-standing children's hospital in Hollywood, Broward County, Florida located near Fort Lauderdale. The hospital recently underwent a 4-story vertical expansion to double the number of floors and continue to meet its commitment to providing the highest quality and safest care for children in the region. This expansion opened in November 2022 and includes a state-of-the-art Pediatric ICU, a new 20-bed cardiac ICU and step-down unit including new ORs with hybrid capabilities, three cath. labs and an interventional radiology suite. The hospital also expanded its surgical capacity with an addition of other new rooms and an inter-operative MRI.

Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital is one of six hospitals that are part of Memorial Healthcare System, the third largest public health system in the country. Memorial delivers nearly 14,000 babies per year in three hospitals and has 120 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) beds – both Level II and III services (the state of Florida is in the process of creating a separate designation for Level IV care, for which JDCH qualifies).

Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital (JDCH) has robust high-risk and congenital programs including a US News and World Report ranked pediatric Cardiology and Heart Surgery Program, one of only two active programs in the state that does heart transplants. JDCH's Orthopedic and Sports Medicine program is also ranked by US News and World Report as the top pediatric orthopedic program in Florida four years in a row and is one of the largest programs in the southeastern United States. JDCH also has robust Neurosciences, Hematology/Oncology and other general and specialized surgical programs (approximately 10,000 surgeries per year), and the area's largest pediatric and neonatal transport team, which also does mobile ECMO. JDCH also houses the Center for Complex Care, which is a joint alliance with Boston Children's Hospital.

JDCH serves over 375,000 children per year from around the state. Approximately 100,000 children are cared for in our three emergency rooms across the county per year. JDCH's services continue to grow with the opening of the new specialty center/ambulatory surgery center in Palm Beach County in 2018 and a new ambulatory pavilion in Miramar, near Miami-Dade County which will open in 2023.

JDCH offers resources for academic pursuits, spanning from clinical research to basic science investigation via affiliations with nearby universities and through its Pediatric Institute for Discovery and Innovation (PIDI). JDCH has an established pediatric residency program and relationships with other hospital providers and universities for various other clinical training programs.
