Technical Lead – Energy

Intertek's Electrical team provides assurance, testing, inspection and certification for a variety of electric products, including appliances, consumer electronics, lighting, medical devices, information communications technology, HVACR, industrial, and energy transmission and distribution. The Technical Lead – Energy position is responsible to provide Business Line and Regional Management with technical assessment of engineering skills and performance levels.  Responsibilities will include but are not limited to assessing training of the technical staff, development of training programs, provide ongoing support and guidance on technical issues and standard interpretations.

Salary & Benefits Information

The base wage or salary range for this position is $120K - $175K. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

What you'll do:

  • Provide regional management with technical assessment of engineering skills and performance levels.
  • Responsible for assessing training of the technical staff and development of new training programs.
  • Responsible for providing technical expertise to personnel and operations at the regional level for recommending and managing capital expenditure projects. 
  • Provide on-going support and guidance on technical issues, test procedures, and standards interpretations.
  • Demonstrate high-level expertise for product and/or standards and take on role as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Energy product group. 
  • Provide thought leadership across the sector, including development of webinars, white papers, attendance and participation at industry events.  
  • Support continuous improvement by leading efforts for new services offerings in response to emerging industry needs and standards. 
  • Provides quotes for a large array of standards and complex projects and products.
  • Develop and communicate test procedures.
  • Represent Intertek on technical committees, code panels and/or associations.
  • Support accreditations activities such as audit follow-up and corrective actions.  Investigate technical complaints.  Audit and qualify sites for special Intertek programs.
  • Provide complex sales support such as giving presentations during client visits.
  • Provide on-going support to clients as needed.
  • Within policy guidelines, identify, properly document, and recommend engineering judgments.
  • Recommend and prepare capital expenditure requests and manage capital projects.
  • Mentor less senior technical staff.
  • Perform other work as required.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • 10+ years directly related experience; including experience in the testing and certification of products within the business line the position supports
  • Advanced experience with i U.S., Canadian, and other international product safety standards (i.e.: ANSI, CSA, UL, EN, IEC)
  • Demonstrated experience in standards such as (but not limited to) UL 9540, UL 1741, IEEE 1547, UL 2200, UL 991, etc.  
  • Ability to make technical decisions and engineering judgments independently where limited standardization exists.
  • Proven track record in managing complex engineering projects and leading cross-functional teams. 
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  • Must be self-motivated with organizational and time management skills.  
  • High degree of personal integrity and the ability to collaborate with others in a team-based environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and demonstrated communication skills, both verbally and written.
  • Excellent leadership and management, mentoring and coaching skills.
  • Ability to promote an effective working relationship at all levels and create a positive work environment.
  • Ability to conduct business across multiple time zones with significant travel involved.
  • Ability to travel as business needs dictate up to 50%.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable driving record is required.

Preferred Qualifications& Requirements

  • Master's degree in engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
