What are we looking for?
In our fast-growing company, we seek an articulate and technically inclined individual to help develop and lead an amazing team of people who are experts in what they do and can work independently. Intertek Alchemy is seeking a Software Development Manager to join the Product Engineering Team in Austin, Texas (or remotely). The ideal candidate is a people manager who directs the Engineering function across multiple products and teams through full lifecycle of work from concept to post-production support and maintenance of desktop and web applications. You will:
- Be responsible for the Engineering function and leading a team of Software Developers to create measurable value and deliver software to market using industry recognized agile methodologies and best practices.
- Interact with management and the business, requiring negotiation of critical matters
- Contribute to the specific vision and strategy initiatives and are recognized as an influential leader at Alchemy
Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Development – Attract, develop, and retain talent through active coaching, career growth support, and team-building.
- High-Performing Teams – Balance hands-on guidance with team autonomy to foster problem-solving and innovation.
- Transparency & Collaboration – Maintain open communication with teams, stakeholders, and customers.
- Continuous Improvement – Identify and remove systemic impediments while driving ongoing process enhancements.
- Decision-Making & Accountability – Use business and technical acumen to track productivity, establish metrics, and drive improvements.
- Engineering Best Practices – Oversee adoption of Agile methodologies, Scrum, and technical standards across teams.
- Alignment with Business Goals – Ensure team efforts align with business objectives, vision, and customer needs.
- Technical Strategy & Roadmap – Drive and execute technical and product improvement strategies, contributing to long-term planning.
- Issue Resolution & Deployment Support – Lead research, troubleshoot issues, and make critical deployment decisions.
- Stakeholder Engagement – Lead meetings, present to customers, and contribute to company-wide discussions.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree and 6+ years experience in a Research & Development/Engineering role or 10+ years of relevant experience
- 2+ years of managerial and/or leadership experience
- Must possess strong leadership skills, a keen business sense and a focus on “adding value” to the organization. Excellent relationship building skills.
- Proven ability to assemble, lead, and strategize with cross-functional teams.
- High level of energy, organizational skills, and customer focus.
- Experience with Agile, SCRUM and use of architectural patterns/frameworks
- Ability to coach and mentor Software Developers
- Ability to verify and define requirements for projects
- Must subscribe to a continuous improvement philosophy
- Proven experience leading, developing, and growing a team.
- Strong knowledge and experience with SaaS products.
- Excellent leadership skills with a proven track record of inspiring teams and delivering results.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to align business goals with technical execution.
Preferred Experience:
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) or training-focused platforms.
- Familiarity with SAFe methodology or another scaled agile framework.
- Experience with staff growth period, product strategy refocus, disciplinary action delivery, process implementation, and new staff hiring
- Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and regulations preferred (PCI, PII, PHI, HIPAA, GDPR, ADA, etc.)
