Interim Lab Director - Building and Construction (Temporary)
MT Group – an Intertek Company is searching for an Interim Lab Director to join our Building & Construction team in our Farmingdale, NY office. The Building & Construction team provides assurance, testing, inspection, and certification services and building science solutions to deliver Total Quality Assurance to the built environment. The team offers the architectural, engineering and construction (A/E/C) industry with a full suite of capabilities both in the lab and on site.
What are we looking for?
The Interim Director will be responsible for all MT Group licensing and accreditations and compliance as well as audit preparation for the laboratory and management of the Lab Operations team. This assignment is expected to last a minimum of three months with an option to extend.
Salary & Benefits Information
The base wage or salary range for this position is $75.00 per hour. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.
What you'll do:
• Assume responsibility for all licensing and accreditations, including the NYC Concrete Testing Laboratory license, CCRL, AMRL, and AASHTO.
• Ensure ongoing compliance with these accreditations and prepare the lab for both internal and external audits
• Manage all lab personnel
• Review and sign/seal laboratory test reports, including but not limited to: Asphalt, Concrete, Soil, & Masonry
• Fireproofing materials
• Serve as a technical resource to management staff and major clients
• Make business recommendations on capital expenditures and other initiatives
• Investigate and promote new business opportunities
• Perform other work as required
What it takes to be successful in this role:
• Bachelor of Science degree in Science or Business preferred
• NY/NJ State PE License
• 5+ years of relevant industry experience is desired
• 5+ years supervisory or managerial experience in commercial construction & lab testing.
• Knowledge and experience in the management of engineering projects and personnel
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent leadership and team building skills
• Self-motivated and assertive
• Proven leadership and team building skills
• Technical competence to interpret and effectively communicate test procedures, specifications and results with subordinates, customers, consultants, and specifiers
• Complete knowledge and understanding of project specification development, architectural drawings, and shop drawings as they relate to the construction industry
• Complete knowledge and understanding of all equipment, test methods/methodology and applicable specifications associated with area(s) of responsibility
• Experience and skills that facilitates an understanding of computers and software developed for the construction industry, to a degree applicable to area(s) of responsibility
• Have familiarity with and be willing to participate in industry organizations involved in writing test methods and specifications
• Understanding of industry organizations involved in writing test methods and specifications
• Self-motivated and assertive
• Ability to effectively manage subordinates and organize the workload
• Ability to travel as business needs dictate
• Valid driver's license and reliable driving record (required)
