GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

  • To be aware of the specific safety requirements relating to the application of methodology falling under the scope of the instrumentation
  • To develop procedures, schedules and training modules to ensure that laboratory equipment is installed, repaired, calibrated, verified, maintained and used in accordance with the method requirement, manufacturer guidelines and the laboratory quality management system.
  • To maintain communication, peers and management regarding the status of equipment, as well as ongoing work related to building reliability.
  • To maintain/monitor a familiarity with the chemical literature and awareness of current developments in the field, including vendor services.
  • To maintain a current inventory of instrument and equipment parts, chemicals, and general supplies that are regularly replaced or consumed and order as needed.
  • Follow a schedule to cover on call requests for the area on nights/weekends/holidays.
  • To carry out all the above responsibilities in supportive manner with adherence to the company's safety policy and procedures, quality management system, ethics policy, environmental management system, vision and strategy, and to exercise good judgment, common sense and diplomacy
  • The position is responsible to effectively manage the day to day functioning of the equipment under the scope of the instrumentation and provides both oversight and support to end users of the area


What it takes to be successful in this role: 

  • The instrumentalist specialist must have Bachelor in chemistry or equivalent.
  • Work will be conducted in an environmentally controlled structure with occasional requirements to travell to outside storage locations days and night. The position will require standing for most of the work shift, walking will be moderate. Eyesight acuity is needed for analytical tests and reading and observing data. Repetitive motions included lifting, moving and carrying generally for items less than 4 kilos but occasionally for items up to greater than 25 kilos with appropriate equipment
  • Experience with electronics and pneumatics
  • Knowledge of laboratory analytical equipment such as GC, AAS, ICP, Sulphur/nitrogen analyzers, IC ect.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving ability
  • Independent and self-motivated to accomplish tasks while requiring minimal direction from management
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and teamwork skills
  • Basic knowledge of the windows computer environment and Microsoft. 
  • Knowledge of measurement of uncertainty, calibration, verification and validation
  • Knowledge of quality systems.
