Geotechnical Technician - Orlando, Florida

What are we looking for?

The Geotechnical Technician role performs a variety of geotechnical related testing, project specific observations and site assessment duties under limited supervision and/or detailed controlled procedures.

What you'll do:

  • Organize soil samples and maintain sample storage area at office
  • Communicate with project managers on field and testing operations
  • Performs a variety of geotechnical related testing, project specific observations and site assessment/reconnaissance duties on jobsites under limited supervision and/or detailed controlled procedures
  • Operates testing equipment and conducts field testing (example: soil, concrete, or other) and provides assessment of data through reporting
  • Work in a team to perform pavement coring on roadways
  • Works utilizing drawings, project plans, aerial imagery, and diagrams
  • Make detailed observations and gives limited interpretation of results
  • Use specific methods to observe site activities and perform tasks
  • Maintain detailed documentation and data from test results and field activities
  • Communicate effectively with client and project teams
  • Must be aware of, and adhere to, safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at work

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • No experience required - we will train!
  • Must have basic math, calculator, and computer skills
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal and written communication
  • Must be able to read and understand work plans
  • Must be able to work in the field and in the branch laboratory as needed
  • Must be able to work overtime and off shifts as needed, including occasional night shifts
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record required

Physical Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Ability to lift, move, push, and pull 30 to 50 pounds occasionally. Additional requirements may be needed for specific sites/locations.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in sound.
  • Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)
  • Ability to climb occasionally

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required
  • Experience performing pavement coring, geotechnical field testing, and/or using GPS equipment is a plus!
