Salary: $123,250 to $134,456 DOE (for 260 day contract)    
Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District
The Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District is located approximately 35 miles north of Anchorage in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, commonly known as the “Valley” and spans nearly 25,000 square miles.  Our District is home to 49 schools ranging in enrollments from 20 to over 2,500 students.  We are the second largest school district in the State of Alaska.  Our focus and long-term planning center around five priority goals; student achievement, reading proficiency, staff alignment, high expectations and parent engagement.
 
The Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District is seeking:
A candidate who can provide leadership and management of the operational aspects of the District's network and computer systems. The Information Technology Director works under the direction of the Deputy Superintendent and oversees the development, execution, support and evaluation of a robust and comprehensive IT system.  The Director works with school and department leaders and staff to ensure access to and effective use of technology systems are in place to support the educational program.  Additionally, the Director focuses the department on innovation, efficiency, industry leading practices, high quality customer support.   
 
 
Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher
  • Minimum of three (3) years of technology management and/or leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of current technology environments including telecommunications, networks, cyber security, database administration, programming, media, and desktops.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong project management skills and demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and manage programs and projects.
  • Understanding and demonstration of “client-centered” support and services.
  • Experience with supervisory principles and practices, monitoring and evaluating subordinate staff, prioritizing, and assigning work.
  • Experience with computers and related software, including an understanding of programming computers and advanced computer network principals; managing database and multiple computer operating systems; evaluating hardware and software applications; performing supervision of complex technical troubleshooting; monitoring network operations.
  • Ability to identify and monitor network security issue and disaster recovery principles; communicating technical information to a non-technical audience; overseeing the installation, configuration and troubleshooting of technological platforms, systems, and networks.
  • Interpersonal skills and communication as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
 
Essential Duties:
  • Responsible for maintaining technology operations to include systems administration, network management, telecommunications management, system and data security, system and data back up and emergency recovery plans.
  • Plans for, establishes, and maintains the district-wide data base systems.  Responsible for assuring data integrity and assisting staff in data access and utilization.
  • Provides leadership in identifying hardware and software needs and purchases, develops specifications, refresh cycles, evaluates vendor products and services.
  • Directs the development and delivery of technology training for use of administrative and instructional systems collaboratively with the Office of Teaching and Learning.
  • Supervises employees to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; and making hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations.
  • Plans and directs transfers, leaves, promotions, and other working conditions of employees in accordance with collective bargaining agreements and Board policies.
  • Establishes, maintains, communicates, and enforces departmental policies and procedures; develops, maintains, and supervises departmental office practices.
  • Collaborates with administrators and technology groups to coordinate technology services between District departments and schools.
  • Provides information and technical advice on major network and computer hardware and software purchases.
  • Prepares and submits applications for reimbursement of Telecommunications and Internet services.
  • Recommends policy revisions and ensures a period review of policies related to the technology program.
  • Operates within the budget and financial parameters that are established annually for the Information Technology Department. 
  • Serves as a liaison with District departments and schools to ensure computerized systems meet departmental and building needs.
  • Approves maintenance routines and procedures for District network and computer equipment.
  • Oversees security policies and procedures for District-wide network and computer systems; assists District administration in implementing and monitoring security measures.
  • Ensures current disaster recovery plans for District network and computer systems exist and are updated regularly.
  • Assists and serves as a subject-matter-expert regarding technology needs assessments; participates on technology committees; designs and implements technology solutions to meet the needs of the District.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
 
Salary and Benefits:
  • Salary of $123,250 - $ 134,456 DOE – 260 day contract
  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance of $150,000.
  • 36 days of personal leave and 15.96 days of sick leave, annually
