Position/PCN: Personnel Support Specialist at Human Resources, Matsu Borough School District Administrative Building

Position FTE: 1.0 FTE

Pay Grade: 8

Starting Wage: $20.22

Days Per Year: 260

Shift Time: TBD
 

Specific job responsibilities relevant for this position include: Under direction, facilitates the processing of personnel actions for all employee groups to include selection, transfer, promotion, resignation, retirement, termination, etc. Responds to employment issues/concerns and coordinates special projects.

Distinguishing Characteristics:   
 

Duty No. Essential Duties 1 1 Assists Supervisor of Human Resources with Certified/Classified staffing; processing in-district transfers, creating and maintaining tenure, non-tenured, seniority lists. 2 Receives, tracks and prepares job evaluation information.  Ensures documentation is accurate, contacts consultant for issues or concerns. 3 Processes necessary salary increases.  Maintains files and notifies appropriate parties.  Completes paperwork for respective changes. 4 Processes completed transfers for classified employees.  Follow up on discrepancies.  Notifies employee if additional paperwork is required.  5 Create and maintain job history file; process new hire paperwork.  Responds to questions and concerns regarding labor agreement and policy procedures.  6 Performs general office work associated with all office operations; answers telephones and provides related information;  greets visitors;  types a variety of documents, answers questions and communicates information.  Responds to policy, and procedural inquiries not requiring the Supervisor's attention. 7 Prepares personnel items for School Board, i.e. new hires, layoffs and rehires, Extended Days, Extra-Curricular and Leave of Absences.  Follows through with employee paperwork and approved actions. 8 Schedules and conducts new employee orientation session to explain benefits and procedures. 9 Prepares various reports related to employee information on an as needed basis. 10 Performs data entry and management into the Human Resources Information System. 11 Maintains process documentation as department updates or process changes occur.  



Knowledge:   Thorough knowledge of office skills to include computer operations, word processing spreadsheets, database, telephone skills, customer service skills and basic office management/accounting skills.
 
Skills (position requirements at entry):   Computer operations to include advanced skills in word processing, databases, spreadsheets and desktop publishing.  Ability to maintain effective and positive communication with employees, applicants, and the general public, and to function effectively as a team member.  Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task. 
 
Training and Experience (position requirements at entry):  Previous education, training, work or life experience which provides reasonable evidence of the successful performance of the various tasks listed. 
 
Licensing Requirements (position requirements at entry):  A valid Alaska Driver's License.
 
Physical Requirements:  Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
