Applications are now being accepted for the Nurse Residency program. Positions may be available at Cape Canaveral Hospital, Holmes Regional Medical Center, Palm Bay Hospital and Viera Hospital.

The Nurse Residency program is designed for the candidate who has recently graduated from an approved school of professional nursing. You may apply and interview prior to receiving your Authorization To Test (ATT) letter. Entry into the program is contingent upon obtaining license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida. Current American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card is required.
Successful applicants will be expected to complete the 6 – 12 week individualized Nurse Residency Program. Each Nurse Resident will be paired with an educated and skilled R.N. preceptor. The Nurse Resident will:
- Learn to provide quality care focused on positive patient outcomes
- Communicate with patients and physicians
- Document appropriately in the medical record
- Acquire and utilize stress and time management strategies
- Develop critical thinking skills
- Progressively prepare for the safe and successful management of a patient team
Weekly evaluations are conducted to monitor growth and progression. Upon successful completion of the Nurse Residency Program, the Nurse Resident will receive an evaluation and become eligible for entry into a staff nurse position.
Primary Accountabilities
- Demonstrates effective communication with other members of the healthcare team and promotes effective team functioning.
- Utilizes Health First computer systems with regard to order entry, order enquiry and patient care documentation.
- Delivers quality patient care under the direction of an experienced Registered Nurse Preceptor utilizing the nursing process.
- Documents all nursing care, change in condition, response to therapy, treatments, procedures and referrals on patient records to meet standards.
- Provides patient, family and/or caregiver education as directed by the Registered Nurse Preceptor.
