Description

One position available.  Location is flexible, but must be located near a HDT production facility or the HDT Solon HQ.

Primary and Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Major contributor to the supplier selection and prequalification process; the Engineer assesses the suitability of potential suppliers based on their capability to satisfy not only design requirements but their overall quality management acumen in all areas of the supplier's business.
  • Leads in developing and enforcing supplier-facing quality assurance procedures.
  • Provides internal training to the Sourcing & Procurement organization, raising the functional knowledge of Supplier Quality Management across the company.
  • Conducts defect investigations as required using DMAIC tools and acting as a liaison between suppliers and HDT Global to permanently resolve ongoing or critical failures in supplier quality management performance.
  • Leads supplier audits and formal audit teams and hosts technical supplier meetings as required. 
  • Participates in new product development sourcing missions to ensure materials and components launch with the assurance of sustained quality performance over time.
  • Oversees the complete data in the company's ERP system to enable real-time analytics of supplier quality performance and accurate scorecard information provided to the supplier community.
  • Works personally with supplier personnel at all management levels to ensure root causes are determined, and corrective action is taken.  Ensures accurate root cause investigation and determines practical corrective actions which can include mentoring the supplier's organization on effective root cause determination and future error-proofing.  Ensures expert utilization of the entire DMAIC toolset, Six Sigma analysis, etc., which the supplier may not practice at the expert level at a given supplier.
  • Represents the subject matter expert for the entire Sourcing & Procurement organization, developing and maintaining internal and external relationships within HDT Global and the supplier community.
  • Provides oversight and guidance that ensures compliance by suppliers with HDT Global Quality Policy and provides oversight within the company's manufacturing sites and in-person familiarity with supplier locations.
  • Coaches supplier management and HDT Global internal management on proper supplier quality management practices and methods. 
  • Ensures compliance with Government Flow-downs such as Berry Amendment, Made in USA, Specialty Metals, and FAR/DFAR/ITAR.  
  • Remains current on new and alternate methods of supplier quality management, as necessary, to lead the supplier quality management effort. 
  • Attends appropriate training and benchmarking opportunities to keep HDT Global at the forefront of supplier quality management practices.  
  • Evaluates medium to long-term supplier capabilities to optimize the commodity supply base in support of supplier aggregation and spend rationalization objectives.
  • Supports, communicates, reinforces, and defends the organization's mission, values, and culture.
  • Supports other projects and performs duties as assigned.

Years of Experience & Level of Education

 

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or quality systems related field.
  • 3-5 years of Quality Management/Supplier Quality Management experience in a manufacturing environment. Aerospace or Defense markets are preferred.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Must be able to speak, read, and understand English
  • Willing and able to travel domestically and globally 50-60% of the time.
  • Strong understanding of leading-edge Supplier Quality Management techniques
  • Analytical skills – Trend Modeling, Data Analysis, and compelling presentations of data-driven conclusions
  • Ability to multi-task, handling quick turn-around
  • Ability to identify problem issues and escalate and execute acceptable and sustainable solutions.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with suppliers and employees/managers at all levels within HDT Global and supplier companies.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain a safe work environment
  • Possesses strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in standard business software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office)
  • SAP experience strongly desired

  • Work is accomplished in a typical office environment with adequate environmental (heating/cooling) control. The noise level in the work environment is moderate due to noises associated with computer equipment and environmental control systems. 
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets
  • Access to operations and manufacturing areas may involve exposure to loud noises, dust, fumes, oils, and fluctuations in temperature

Physical Demands

  • Performs all work safely and with concern for workmanship and good housekeeping practices.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee alternates between sitting and standing/walking for extended periods
  • This position requires occasionally lifting office products and supplies up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required per plant rules

Training  

  • New employee safety orientation and training on special tools or software required for job performance
