Essential Duties:
Supports the department by creating a variety of complex mechanical/electrical/electronic designs for new parts, subassemblies, assemblies, or systems configurations using CAD, compiling bills of materials and assisting in the assembly of prototypes. Leads continuous improvement initiatives. Mentor's colleagues.
- Draws multiple views; depicting relationship of component and parts; identifying dimensions,
- angles, curvatures, tolerances, and materials
- Prepares bills of material (BOMs) and specifications
- Creates required documentation and processes engineering changes
- Implements design to cost
- Implements design for manufacturability
- Implements design for maintainability
- Implements design for weight
- Ensures quality of drawings and functionality of equipment by assisting in the building/acquiring of prototypes
- Makes various calculations, such as strength of materials, weights, simple forces, and stresses, frequently using charts and tables
- Analyzes the effect of proposed changes for proper fit and/or interference problems
- Recommends possible solutions or alternate construction
- Modifies drawings and models as required
- Confers with engineers to resolve issues
- Provides assistance to lesser experienced drafters by communicating work priorities, providing technical assistance and verifying accuracy of work
- Maintains CAD equipment by following manufacturer's instruction and procedures; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs, as required
- Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related results in a cooperative and supportive manner
- Completes drafting as required
- Supports, communicates, reinforces and defends the mission, values and culture of the organization
- Adheres to all quality and safety standards
- Supports other projects and performs duties as assigned
Education/Experience/Other Skills & Abilities:
- Five (5) plus years of strong performance as a designer
- Associates degree in related field or equivalent experience required; Bachelor's degree preferred
- Able to work independently
- Experience with three or more CAD programs
- Competent technical expertise
- Comfortable with the shop/laboratory and equipment
- Possesses quality orientation and high attention to detail
- Possesses strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with customers, vendors, employees and managers at all levels within the company
- Possesses strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in standard business software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office)
