Summary:
The Sr MFG Engineer position will provide manufacturing engineering support to facilitate the successful development of new systems and products, or modifications and revisions to current systems and products. The Sr MFG Engineering position offers a variety of engineering opportunities including fixture design, analysis, 3D modeling, plant layout, line layout, process evaluation, machine programming, and testing. Position is 100% on-site.
Essential Duties:
- Designs, develops, analyzes, documents and supports manufacture of products, systems, or subsystems.
- Incorporates engineering requirements into planning and work.
- Directs and support production personnel in building products, providing technical guidance as needed.
- Communicates effectively (oral and written) with internal teams and customers.
- Works independently.
- Reports progress and status to relevant stakeholders.
- Completes assigned tasks on time and budget while meeting requirements.
- Embraces or leads initiatives (depending on experience).
- Applies and supports Lean methodologies and required tools.
- Creates and modifies routings, BOMs, work instructions.
- Participates in new product release process and transitions designs to the production floor.
- Proactively identifies and mitigates risks.
- Guides interns and provides mentorship to other engineers as needed.
- Collaborates with product engineering to resolve issues and support development efforts.
- Conducts independent research of new methods, technologies, and equipment and makes recommendations for implementation.
- Reviews engineering specifications and requirements, and under direction, develops best methods to support.
- Identify and implements improved methods, processes, and work instructions to reduce cost and improve efficiency
- Communicates clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required
- Supports, communicates, reinforces and defends the mission, values and culture of the organization
- Available for limited travel
Education/Experience/Other Skills & Abilities:
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering/Technology, or similar.
- 5-7 years' experience in similar technical role.
- Military/ defense experience preferred.
- Product development experience- concept through production release.
- Demonstrated experience with work cell layout and production line setup.
- Experience in a softgoods/ fabric production environment.
- Experience with sewing machines, CNC cutting equipment, and RF or hot air welding processes.
- Experience designing assembly improvement fixtures.
- Experience in DFMA analysis, time study, and test reports preferred.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Strong Interpersonal skills with the ability to work with customers, vendors and employees at all levels.
- Mechanically inclined with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work autonomously, prioritize work assignments, and multi-task to meet deadlines.
- Ability to offer their own opinions and commentaries while being flexible and responsive to constructive feedback by managers and peers.
- Application of technical principles/techniques from established practices, as well as a functional knowledge/understanding of mechanical engineering processes, techniques, and practices to quickly/accurately perceive the fit, form, function, and manufacturability of design.
- SolidWorks experience required; Certification a plus, AutoCAD and SolidWorks CAMWorks experience helpful.
- SAP experience a plus.
- LEAN/ Six Sigma certification a plus.
- PC-based computer experience essential, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Basic knowledge/understanding of industry standards (ISO, etc.) and codes.
- Strong, proven organizational and time management skills.
- High Attention to detail and strong quality orientation
- Possesses strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in standard business software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office)
- Must be able to speak, read and understand English
