This Sr. Income Tax Accountant role will support most aspects of the income tax compliance and accounting cycle, including the preparation of federal and state income tax returns, quarterly financial statement tax provisions, and all other tax life-cycle processes by supporting the preparation of other federal and state compliance filing requirements. This role will have the general knowledge to support areas of tax accounting and reporting, and return-to-provision calculations with a moderate level of direction and guidance.Job Responsibilities:
- Preparation of monthly and quarterly income tax provisions for GAAP and Statutory companies under ASC 740 and SSAP 101, as well as related tax footnote disclosures, and supporting analytics.
- Participate in the completion of the consolidated federal and state corporate income tax returns, including preparing pro-forma returns within income tax software, calculating book to tax differences and estimated tax calculations.
- Perform tax research as assigned.
- Provide fresh perspective on tax processes and identify potential improvements, including the use of tax technology and automation, where applicable.
- Collaborate with Tax Department peers to address tax issues and meet organizational objectives.
- Stay abreast of technical developments with the US taxation of domestic corporations including provisions specific to the insurance industry.
Required Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree in Business and 2 years experience in tax accounting or assets accounting or a combination of 6 years experience in tax accounting or assets accounting.
- Experience with GAAP and statutory accounting.
- Experience with income tax returns.
- Experience with fixed asset related schedules for state tax returns.
- PC proficiency to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Clear, concise communication, with good grammar and word choice.
- Some travel required for continuing education.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
- Certified Public Accountant designation, and/or Master of Science in Taxation degree
- Knowledge within the insurance industry
- Exposure to statutory accounting principles and Statement of Statutory Accounting Principles No. 101
- Experience with income tax technology software (e.g., Corptax, OneSource)
- Knowledge within the insurance industry
