Surgical Critical Care Advanced Practitioner Role Scope
  • Hartford Hospital's Surgical Critical Care Team is committed to creating an innovative patient centered delivery system that continuously improves quality care.
  • The Physician Assistant providers are part of a multidisciplinary team that plans and delivers care for complex multiple surgical patient populations including: general surgery, trauma, vascular, thoracic, liver transplants, and other critical care patients as the service needs dictate.
  • The Advanced Practice Provider works in collaboration with the attending intensivist, critical care fellows, residents, the primary admitting team and consultants.
  • Responsibilities include managing multiple patients with varied critical illness, comprehensive physical assessments, interpretation of diagnostic results, hemodynamic/ventilator management, continuous veno-venous hemofiltration (CVVH), daily progress notes, patient/family education and meetings.
  • Extensive 6 month immersion orientation with educational lectures, and case simulation in our Center for Education, Simulation & Innovation. Dedicated preceptors to provide training and supervision for patient management and skills such as arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, and feeding tubes.

Advanced Practitioner Requirements
  • Physician Assistants (PA) positions require current CT Physician Assistants (PA) License and Board certification or eligible.
  • All disciplines require Federal DEA, and CT Controlled Substance Registration
  • Critical Care experience in Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) preferred.
  • Clinical rotation within critical care required for new grads
  • ACLS/BLS
