A Paralegal II performs, but is not limited to the following duties:
- Perform legal research using a basic knowledge of application of a body of law, regulations, precedents, and practices covering one or more recurring types of legal actions, performs research, evaluation, and analysis of a variety of routine legal topics.
- Organizes and prepares research material and determines information that is pertinent to the case.
- Performs basic legal analysis of routine requests for information.
- Prepares indices of legal and administrative material.
- Writes drafts of initial legal and administrative briefs, motions, opposition to defense motions, and correspondence for AUSA review.
- Drafts legal documents that identify the legal or factual issues in the case, locate precedents and develop legal supportable conclusions.
- Reviews, proofreads, and edits legal documents.
- Prepares and organizes documentation and evidence for discovery and use at trial.
- Maintains evidence such as paper documents, PDF files, image files, audio files, video files, bank records, forensic reports, and other file types.
- Provides litigation assistance to attorneys in trial preparation and courtroom presentations.
- Participates in pre-trial witness conferences.
- Prepares and organizes trial exhibits, documents, memoranda, reports and correspondence relating to cases for review by AUSAs.
- Compiles case files for AUSAs and coordinates with appropriate points of contact to obtain copies of all documentation pertinent to case or claim.
Requirements
A Paralegal II must meet the following qualifications:
- A High School Diploma, or equivalent (an undergraduate degree is preferred);
- At least 2-years of experience; trial experience very helpful (Experience as Legal Secretary or Paralegal)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, word processing, document management, business administration, and data entry;
- Proficiency with office technology, including but not limited to computers, fax machines, and copier machines;
- Proficiency in organizational skills and the ability to multitask assignments;
- Ability to obtain Top Secret level clearance
