About the Position

To provide overall managerial and supervisory responsibilities of the Company's liability claim portfolio, particularly the higher exposure claims. This is done through diligent oversight of the liability and damage investigation of the claims; oversight of third party administrator's claim practices and proper utilization of insurance carrier claim representatives, medical case management and other vendors as the need arises. The position will oversee claims representatives' caseloads and ensure proper direction, development, and proper disposition of these cases. This position is instrumental in ensuring timely contact of involved parties, thorough investigations, pushing disposition. It interfaces with all operating divisions in both pre-loss safety efforts and post-loss cost mitigation and prevention measures. The role will also aid the TPA (third party administrator) in securing supporting documentation for the subrogation claims and enhance recovery. It audits compliance to the application of claim handling best practices for liability nationwide. This is a key position on the risk management team.

Responsibilities:

  • Proper use and direction of TPA personnel and oversight of their claims management practices.
  • Proper use and direction of TPA personnel and oversight of management of approved vendors.
  • Ensure the claims assigned to this manager are adequately reserved at all times, that reserves are adjusted timely and appropriately based on the current support in the claim file, and that appropriate documentation that speaks to the value of the case has been or is being requested by the file handler.
  • Although the file handlers' requests for reserve and settlement authority will be submitted to the TPA management this manager will sit on the LL panel and weigh in on reserve recommendations.
  • Manager will document his/her activities on all their pending cases in the RIMS system. The manager will ensure that they see the file on a suspense date that meets the level of risk the case presents. No suspense or follow up by the manager on any one file will exceed 90 days.
  • The manager will ensure that all reporting requirements by our carrier and/or our company are met by the file handler.
  • The manager may be asked to track or generate TPA reports for a variety of metrics for the department, such as lag time, pending per adjuster, etc.
  • The manager will give the necessary direction to the claim handler to ensure that the file quality meets or exceeds 90%
  • The manager will bring any quality or handling issues to the attention of the claim management staff
  • The manager will assist the locations in submitting information necessary to take liability or subrogation claims forward. The manager may also be involved in training of our locations concerning the necessary documents needed regarding liability or subrogation claim handling.
  • The manager may be involved in training claim personnel or collaborating with other team members concerning training modules to be rolled out and/or implemented
  • The manager will ensure that all claims are managed to the highest standard, whether by external TPA or internal staff, eliminating unnecessary payments and minimizing the costs of handling claims
  • The manager will assist the file handlers in ensuring that sound litigation management occurs and that the performance of external counsel is moving a file to the most direct and cost-effective resolution.
  • Maintain a diary for all files assigned by the Sr Corp Claim Director
  • Advise Sr. Corporate Claim Director of any issues that may come up with any vendors that are assisting on the file or in the department
  • Other Duties as required or requested



Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required
  • Advanced Degree preferred
  • Business-Insurance Studies
  • 5+ years in Liability Claims
  • TPA or Carrier Claims experience a plus
  • Adjuster's License and CPCU preferred
  • Experience with Liability Investigation Techniques
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with an acute ability to listen attentively and to communicate information clearly and effectively throughout all levels of the organization with audiences of varying degrees of familiarity with material
  • Results-driven, action-oriented and self-motivated mindset
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook or comparable software application
