Unit Notes
• Unit- ICU Medical/Surgical/Neuro
• # beds 26 beds
• Certs BLS ACLS prefers 2 years' experience but not required will take 1st time travelers but they need to understand that this is a very busy critical unit
• Ratios- 1 to 2 could be 1 to 3 if one of the patients is being transferred out hypothermia patients 1:1
• Charge Nurse- Charge nurse 24/7 no patient assignment unit also has a ANCC Assistant Nurse Care Coordinator who helps with all patients and will help with all duties
• Nurse Aides- 3 nurse stations PCT for each station could change during assignment if PCT is pulled to sit
• Weekend Requirement every other weekend
• Tele/Monitor Techs- Neon Codin monitors 3 central Tele stations (no Tele tech) The tele station at the front of the unit monitors all the patients rooms the unit also has monitors in each room
• Drips- vasopressors all sedation Propofol titrating drips is required
• Vents- yes manager was not sure, but she thought they were Cervo
• Hospitalist or Intensivist in house always have doctors in unit 2 ICU intensivists available also residents (the unit always has support)
• IV Team- PICC team
• RT 24/7 yes
• Pharmacy 24/7 yes clinical pharmacists on day shift not on nights shifts
• Shifts 12 hr shifts 8 - 8:30 both Day/Night Block scheduling available schedules are out 2-3 weeks in advance
• Floating - traveler could be asked to float to a PCU unit on the 7th floor (this unit has 4 patients with a PCT could have 3 vents (this is very rare)
• Floor specific orientation-floor orientation varies depends on how comfortable the nurse is at least 1-2 days
• Common diagnosis / Types of patients very critical patients ortho, many vents neuro, EVD delirium assessments, laminectomy sepsis DKA, (IF THE TRAVELER DOES NOT HAVE NEURO EXP THEY WILL NOT TAKE THESE PATIENTS
• Additional Notes this is a very busy unit nurse must be a good multitasker good team player and they will work very hard on this unit but there is a lot of support of staff available
