- Unit: Medical Psych Canyon View RN
-# of Beds: 28- majority of rooms are dual occupancy, when a patient is unable to have a roommate one bed is blocked. 2 restraint
rooms. Average daily census is 15-16.
- Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1:07
- Required certifications: BLS, MOAB(Management of Aggressive Behavior) or CPI preferred, enhanced background check.
- Patient Populations/Common diagnoses: Suicidal, depression, psychosis, schizophrenia, bi-polar, personality disorders, alcohol and
opioid detox- have to be medically stable enough to not require IVs. Acute and lower acuity patients all share common hallways due
to the layout of our facility. Will take 18 years old and up if they can safely admit- must be medically stable- would be medically
cleared in ER prior to admission. Take pts from every ER in state and surrounding states.
- Experience or 'Must have' skills: 1 year of experience. Prefer RNs and psychiatric technicians with related past work experience but not
a requirement due to the training received in house.

- Do you ever have IV's on this unit: No
- Is there a Charge Nurse &/or House Supervisor on each shift: Charge RN 24 hours per day- they do all admission work and will only
take patients when staffing requires.
- Do you use physical restraints on this unit: Yes- not required experience just want awareness they are used. Rarely use restraints- use
verbal descallation first, but will use chemical, seclusion, 4-point, and hands on if needed.
- Are there nurse aids or mental health specialists on this unit: Psychiatric Technician I: provide 15-minute checks, toiletries, monitor
meals, patient linens, answer phones, 1:1 sitter needs, staff group therapy as needed, ACCU checks, vitals, assist with restraints when
required.
Psychiatric Technicians II: (Activity Therapists overseen by Occupational Therapy) support all Psych Tech I duties when able and provide
all activity groups, supply books to patients, monitor board games.
- Is RT available if needed: RT is not available the unit. CPAP, Supplemental O2 at night, SVNs (small volume nebulizers) if ordered will
be monitored by nursing. They do not accept patients requiring O2 during daylight hours.
- Are there tele/monitor techs on this unit: No tele on the unit. If an EKG is ordered it will be read by the Cardiology team. EKGs are only
utilized prior to starting a medication when needed. Any patient that is symptomatic is transferred to the ED for cardiac workup.
- Shifts & Scheduling: 12 hours, 7-7. Scheduler will make schedule- try to block travelers and accommodate requests as much as they
can. Additional shifts or overtime is not available.
- Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend but may be more if there is a need.
- Holiday Requirements: Holidays will be required if there is a need.
- Is there call or a standby requirement: No
- Floating Requirements: Can be floated to Magic Valley Hospital if there is low census to provided 1:1 staffing.
- Scrub Color/Dress Code: Navy Blue
- How many shifts of unit/department specific orientation: 2 shifts on the floor in addition to general orientation on Mon-Wed.
