5MB: most psychiatrically acute unit, 21 bed unit for observation and stabilization, little programming, staffing ratio is approximately 1:2-3; noc approximately 1:4-5Patients suffering from a mental illness who have demonstrated violent or assaultive behaviors preceding or during their admission, may be in psychiatric crisis needing intensive monitoring and interventions, may have co morbid medical problems, sudden psychosis or deterioration in mental status, often involuntarily detained
